I understand that there is a booster in one of the A pillars that eventually dies out, but have no experience or knowledge as to where it is, what can be replaced for better reception and the details behind it.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey guys. Anybody know how to improve the radio antenna reception on the OE Becker radio? I understand that there is a booster in one of the A pillars that eventually dies out, but have no experience or knowledge as to where it is, what can be replaced for better reception and the details behind it. Hoping a few from the forum have been through this exercise. I am planning on sending my Becker in for a refresh and Bluetooth capabilities so figured I would work on the reception. Thanks for your help.

POST 2Original post

My research into the antenna indicates that the antenna amplifier is in the right side A pillar. In my 99, the Becker radio worked ok on FM but had no reception on AM. Not long after I got the car, the Becker radio died. I replaced it with an Alpine AM/FM/CD radio. The FM us about the same and the AM is unusable. Luckily, the AM station I listened to switched to FM so I never chased after the AM reception. I suspect that a good antenna amplifier would help. If I were to go down this road, I would start by looking for TV antenna amplifiers as FM is within tge FV bands. AM is a lower frequency range so that may require a different amplifier for good performance.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Good input. Not alot of info on the antenna amplifier. The oart seems to be available. Any idea how tough of a job it is? Just a simple plug and play?

A stock VHF amp will work, but you are going to have to come up with your own power supply.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Here is a picture of the antenna booster in the passenger side A pillar. Anybody ever replace theirs and have any details as to if it helped with reception as well as things to be aware of?
