I had already adjusted the stops for the engine lid so that is sits a bit lower.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've noticed this since I bought my car a year ago, and at that time it only had 14,000 miles on it. I thought it was a suspension issue, but when I installed my H&Rs, I checked everything and I didn't see any problems. The spring/strut is installed correctly as well, and everything is torqued properly. The car currently has 20,800 miles. If you have the windows down, and you aren't going very fast (under 20 MPH), there is a slight rattle/clunk when going over pronounced bumps. It sounds like it's coming from the rear driver's side, but that's probably because it's the only side I can hear. So while I originally thought this was the suspension, considering the whole powertrain is back there as well, maybe it's exhaust noise? Has anyone else noticed this? - Anthony

POST 2Original post

It's a bit hard to see from the photo, is your car a Targa?

POST 3Original post

I get a jangley rattle when going over bumps, and it comes from the rear drivers side too. I don't see any thing loose either???? No clunk however. Seems to diminish once the car warms up. I have PSS10s. Is this some quirk from lowered cars??

Don't think so... It did it when it was stock as well. I don't think it's suspension related or I would have noticed it when I installed the H&Rs.

No, coupe.

POST 6Original post

Tap on your cat's and see if there is anything loose in them.

POST 7Original post

How about the heat shields? I know when I first start my car (after the car has cooled down) I get a rattle when I excelerate. Once the car is warmed up, it's gone.

POST 8Original post

Any chance the engine lid has anything loose in it. When I shut mine it seems to have a slight rattle of the wing and mech not being rock solid.

I had already adjusted the stops for the engine lid so that is sits a bit lower. I noticed before that when I'd accelerate hard, I could hear the lid rattle a bit from my intake. However, now that you mention it, I wonder if I'm hearing the spoiler making the noise... - Anthony

POST 12Original post

+1 on heat shields. A lot of vehicles have this problem. I think all spoilers have some slack in them, although, I can't imagine what would make them "rattle". Really depends on whether you hear a metal rattle or non-metal rattle. The heat shield on my old Boxster rattled when the car was cold or under hard acceleration. Just wedged a shim to brace it.

POST 13Original post

Had a similar sound in an older 911 that turned out to be a broken (or at least in the progress of breaking) shock..................

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That was my first thought as well, but then I'd be able to hear it with the windows up (and not just with them down), and at all speeds. I've heard a dead shock before, and this seems a bit too high pitched to be that. Now that people mention the heat shields, I wonder if that's what's causing it, as I only really hear the noise once the car gets pretty hot. I'll have to take a look under there this weekend. Thanks for all the advice. - Anthony
