Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 99 C2 Cab with hard top. What speed should the wing raise up? Is there a switch inside the car, that when on, it keeps iit down? I am sure at 55, it is not up. Can anyone help me figure out what is wrong? Thanks much!!

POST 2Original post

You need to hit 75Mph I believe, at least that's the speed for '03s

POST 3Original post

its 75mph to get the spoiler up, on all model years. at any point after its up and you slow to less than 55, it comes down. and no, there is no way to keep it from going up, as it is neccessary to maintain the car's stability at speeds higher than 75, again 75mph. edit: oh and i forgot to add, there IS however, a way to make it stay up. inside the footwell, on the fuse panel, there is a switch (only1 switch) press the top of it once to get the spoiler up, you must hold it down for 10seconds to make it go down again.

Thanks everyone...Renn list is the best

POST 5Original post

Moogle, i believe that the tail comes down around 37-38 mpf in the 996 (at least it does in mine). As for the 993, I think it goes up at 55mph, and does not go back down until the car comes to a virtual stop.

POST 6Original post

In the 964/993 the spoiler goes up @ 48MPH and lowers at 6MPH and the 986/996 the spoiler goes up @ 75MPH and lowers @ 55 MPH. It is in the owners manual.

POST 7Original post

I had a problem where it failed to raise automatically at 75Mph but I could manualy raise it with the switch. Once raised with the switch it would auto retract at 45Mph. When the tail failed to raise at 75Mph, the tail warning light came on on the dash. It would not go out until I restarted the car. I searched everywhere to try to fix it. I replaced a relay. I almost stripped the tail mechanism down to see if was catching on something. In the end it turned out to simply be a dirty connection in the connector hidden directly behind the right stop light but on the bottom of the engine bay next to the hinge. I pulled the connector apart. cleaned it. Reconnected and hey presto. never had the problem again since.

POST 8Original post

It might say that in the manual, but I'm almost positive that mine goes down at 45mph.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Found the answer...comes up at 75, goes down at when car reaches 55. At least for the 996. Thanks everyone.

POST 11Original post

Quote from page 46 of my 01 owner's manual: "The rear spoiler automatically extends at approximately 75mph/120 km/h and retracts at approximately 37 mph/60 km/h."

POST 12Original post

i have a '99 c2, and concur with patrick on the spoiler going down at exactly 37 mph. wow, i thought something was wrong for a while there, thanks patrick

POST 13Original post

it goes up at 75 and lowers at 37. I don't know where the 55 mph quote is coming from...

POST 14Original post

I just took mine out for a spin. It came up exactly at 75 and lowered exactly at 45. I tried it 3 times....and broke the speed limit 3 times too :-) I wonder if ths is a ROW verses US difference again?

POST 15Original post

I also want to say that I think the tail lift feature is ultra cool. I have weighed up the idea of putting a fixed wing spoiler on my cab but I would miss the tail lift. I don't know about you guys but I often see people follow me just to see the tail go up and then they fall back :-) You can often see them discussing it: "Hey Joe, watch the tail go up on that Porsche. Wow thats so Kewl!"

POST 16Original post

yeah, maybe the 45 MPH is RoW and the 37 MPH is US spec... but i still don't know where the 55 MPH is coming from.

POST 17Original post

I know that my spoiler goes down at 45 mph, although the manual says 37.

POST 18Original post

The only thing I know is that a lot of numbers or going around.

POST 19Original post

And I just checked the owners manual and I was wrong the spoiler does retract @ 37MPH for the 996, I thought on the earlier 996's it retracted @ 45MPH. Oh well. But on the Boxster's it retracts @ 50MPH. Sorry my BAD.
