Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Does anyone know if it's easy to cut out the stock cats and re-weld new ones in?
The reason I ask is that OBDII compliant universal 200 cell cats are available at a very reasonable price.
You could probably take your car to a competent welder with the rear bumper off and have a set of cats welded in. I've seen many cars fixed this way without issue. I would use a high quality and more free flowing design, but there's no technical reason it shouldn't work.
I think he means cut out the existing cat's and weld 200 cell cat's in their place...would not require the bumper come off...sounds like it could be done but how much would you save (assuming you have to farm out the labor)?
I think this is a great idea! Do it and let us know how it goes.... finding the right diameter shouldnt be to hard..

I also replaced the OEM cats one on my Benz. $160 vs $2k. I cut the old ones off and welded the aftermarkets on. The only downside was the aftermarkets were not as quiet.
I'd say go for it, what is the downside? lose $160 & welding? Would be a lot easier than doing the Benz.
Tried checking with Midas before and their prices were fairly expensive.
Have used Exhaust Systems with very good luck.
No, haven't joined PCA yet. Thinking about it. Was a member about 20 years ago but seemed like only the magazine made it worth it.
That's good to know that it should be easier than my Benz.
On my Benz I only replaced the secondary cats. The primaries were tucked up too tightly in near the firewall.
Check the local site. Maybe email Bryon Okubo. He's always changing cars. He even used to own my car. He's in a turbo 993 now. He might have ideas, parts or others to contact here for the fix. I was going on crusies and not a member till I got off my tail and put one of my newer laptops I rarely use online. So maybe just hang out if something is goes on with the club.

Oh yah, you wanna ride some time? I'm kinda old so I might forget you were behind me after nailing it
The cats need to come off (bumper can stay in for removal). Once measured and cut... it needs to go back on the car for proper alignment. Once aligned, tack weld the cats in place. Then the cats need to come off again for proper welding. It would be very difficult to weld the pipes/cats mounted on the car.
The inlet and outlet pipes on the stock cats are offset from each other. Unless the cats you are buying have the same offset, you will have some issues. To make the cat section line up with the exhaust manfold and the mufflers, I think you will have to do some custom bending of the cat pipes.
