Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

Now use the blower speed to control the cabin comfort level.
Leading evidence: 'Use blower speed' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use blower speed' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Oh, don't forget, DO NOT FORGET, to manually switch off the system airflow to the interior surface of the windshield when the A/C is in use for cooling purposes.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My AC is only OK for now, but when we get 100+ temps here in Vegas, I may be in trouble. Does the AC in the 996 usually work well, or is it usually below par, even when all is good? I remember hearing the AC in 911's was not very good. That may have been on the older ones though.
Grazie!!
The 996 air works great. I remember seeing the temp here at 107 and the air kept me comfortable. In my wife's Boxter, I have to charge it every year, $10 and a half hour, then it works great all summer. Never had to charge the 996. GL
The water cooled variants have great a/c. It's the pre 996 cars that suck in the A/C department. Get it serviced. I was in Vegas for 4 years and bought my 996 CAB 8 years ago from Gaudin so I can say the A/C got a good workout. As has been said, get it serviced. Either take it to Gaudin or Carl's Place. ONly two places I trusted with my P-cars.
If you have problems with marginal A/C the very first thing you should do is go to Home Depot and buy a manual water flow shutoff valve to install in the coolant line to the heater core. Close it throughout the summer, cooling, months.
In the meantime you can improve FE, the engine heat loading, and improve A/C efficiency in the following way. Put the system into recirculate and turn the temperature control setting down to MAX COLD. Now use the blower speed to control the cabin comfort level. This will effectively BY-PASS the system's horribly INEFFICIENT reheat/remix airflow path, thereby reducing the dutycycle of the A/C compressor substantially. Less condensor heat ahead of the engine coolant radiator.
Conversely I have a manual switch mounted in the center glove box wired in series with the A/C compressor clutch that I leave open throughout the heating season. Eliminates the possibly of mold and mildew growth and HIGH cabin humidity, windshield and window fogging, episodes during the cooler months.
Oh, don't forget, DO NOT FORGET, to manually switch off the system airflow to the interior surface of the windshield when the A/C is in use for cooling purposes. Porsche (via Bosch controls), in order to more evenly distribute cabin cooling airflow and thereby somewhat reduce the discomfort of COOL airflow to the face and upper body will open all three airflow outlets, footwell/dash/defrost once the cabin temperature cools to nearby your setpoint.
This could, and can, prove to be highly unsafe in certain low light conditions wherein it becomes less obvious that your forward vision is declining due to exterior fogging of the cooled (Chilled..??) windshield surface. VW, years ago, provided a firmware change to correct for this in their version of the Cayenne but Porsche dealers tear up and discard(***), "operating as designed", service request writeups on this point.
*** Not a good idea to have written records in the customer's hands for a clearly HAZARDS design aspect.
I guess now you realize the 996 a/c is a good one. Some guys are against window tint but if you want the best window tint go for the ceramic. Your car wont get anywhere as much heat it it that normal tints allow. The guys not liking tinting don't live in high heat, high sun values. UV here is typically 10 pretty much all the time.
