Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I manage to get a set of OEM sport design wheels to use for the track... 9x18 et52 and 10x18 et65. Not sure what tires to mount just yet... the idea is to get rid of some of the push I get during turns... I got it apart by using an 8mm tri-square, 12 point bit that I got at Pepp Boys. It came as a set of 4, 4mm,6mm8mm10mm for $12. Once I got it apart, I polished the lip using 400, 1000, 1500, 2000 grit sandpaper. It is in mirror finiished. As for the center spokes.... Im thinking of painting it black since it will pop against the mirror lip and the titanium screws that hold it the the rims.... what do you think? Or the classic silver is also very nice.... here are some pics of it dismantled.... gonna torque her down to 12ft/ilbs with some blue loctite.

POST 2Original post

your car is black? Anything will work. I'd be really tempted to rattle can them a bright yellow, orange or other bright, racey and contrasting color. If you didn't like it, it could easily be removed.

POST 4Original post

I thought fore sure you would be on the hunt for those wheels we saw on that Millennium edition at Hershey! silver!

POST 5Original post

Paint centers to match body color would look sick!...you MUST do this!!! (on at least one to see how it looks )

POST 6Original post

I agree with FLY!!! Make sure you torque down the bolts in the proper order

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source posts: 7566141, 7566321

Really? Im gonna have to look into this.... got it.... 180deg pattern, starting at 12, 6, 9 and 3 o:clock. Torque them down to half. Once all the bolts are on, torque to full setting again at staggered pattern.

POST 9Original post

How about the Gunmetal Color you see on Nissan GT-R. The polished lip, did you have any nicks that need filled?

POST 12Original post

Black or silver will look great. Did I read somewhere that you should not resuse those titanium wheel bolts? I thought they are a one time use item.

POST 13Original post

lets see that mirror finish in better pictures - please. Do you have before pictures?

yeah, Im so bummed, I cant find them anywhere... they are very rare. gunmetal sounds like the way to go.... not to dark, not to light.... had scratches but not very deep, no filler needed. You really have to get a deep gouge to not able to sand them down.... sanding does wonders, but these were not bad at all.... almost new in fact. +1... though I love silver wheels, I hate the brake dust. nice, is it glossy like paint/clearcoat?... have you tracked with it? Im sure it hold up real well... just concerned with the heat process with powdercoating process. was it another wheel or the sports design or that is a general statement? Ive read here that you can re-use them as long as it is not stripped. here ya go.... what a bitch to polish... the original is a machine finish. original: now:

POST 15Original post

I would go with black. It reminds me of the Fuchs that I had on the '86 Carrera. The lips were mirror polished. 7's on front 9's on back. They were be-utiful when they were clean.

POST 16Original post

I'd do body color, it'll look killer with that polished rim. PS appreciate your dedication to get these wheels looking right - good stuff.

POST 17Original post

HMMM - having seen that black powder coated wheel I am changing my opinion to: go with the stock silver color sorry, I dont like it in black

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 7566823

Not a general statement. I was referring to these wheels specifically. I would make sure that you check with someone who knows for sure before putting the wheels back together.

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 7566555

this would be good to know - I recall hearing something but didnt listen too carefully as I saw something shiny right about then

POST 20Original post

Quotes source post: 7566339

I'd recommend in increments of 3 as apposed to 2 .... my 2 cents anyway. Good luck and I'm in on the Gun Metal Grey look!

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source posts: 7567137, 7567331

thanks.... Ill see what I can dig up and report back, but the threads I dug up stated they have had no issues re-using them. 3 increments.... that wouldnt hurt,.... its only 80 bolts. .... x 3

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 7567560

Yes, but since your making the effort, what's a few more hours of tedious, boring, wrenching in the garage?

POST 23Original post

Ferd, did you find any sealant when taking it apart?

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7567610

this 2 piece is a simple design.... no sealant/gasket. The barrel holds the center section by non protruding bolts. People have put them back together without any loctites.... but I will use blue loctite. The barrel is very light.... the center is not. I will weigh them later.

POST 25Original post

I would do the spokes in glossy black and the rims in flat black. Sounds odd but ive seen this combo executed and its pretty slick in my opinion. Plus the black centers of course...

POST 26Original post

but you will have to scuff up those shiny parts to get the paint to stick

POST 27Original post

Oh, forgot to add that ive powder coated a set of wheels black and my finish was clear and glassy, unlike the wheels in the picture provided. Powder coating is the way to go. Make sure the wheels get an even coat throughout otherwise balancing the wheels becomes a problem.

POST 28Original post

Quotes source post: 7568321

a powder coater wouldl mediablast them first.

POST 29Original post

LOL - what do you think Ferd... 20 hours of polishing... mediablasted

POST 30Original post

Ferdinand, I have seen a few Porsches with the centers of the wheels painted body color....with your unique color, it would really look stunning. Mine are powdercoated black. The center is sort of a matte black and the outside is gloss black. The color variation is due the the finish of the metal. Black is great for hiding brake dust.

POST 32Original post

i have the same wheels and would love a better explanations of how you got the barrels so shiny. mine are machined as well.

POST 33Original post

I did the powder coat and it actually filled in some flaws.
