Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Having strange noises coming from the engine bay. First I thought it was metal on metal but narrowed it down to a short loud vacuum suction noise from the right hand side of engine bay (when looking in). It occurs around 800-1200rpm when you press the accelerator quickly, like when you blip the throttle. Pressing slightly slower and you can hear the air sucking. Do a smooth acceleration and the noise isn't there. Any ideas as to what this could be? There must be a hose, clamp loose somewhere. The airbox to throttle body is secure... Maybe it's a blown exhaust part? Not suction but air escaping through the muffler? Had the car up on ramps and couldn't see anything loose?

Normal air intake noise? Impossible to say for sure, not being able to hear the noise, examine the car, observe the car/engine when the noise occurs, but when you open the throttle the engine of course will want to ingest more air and this air rushing into the intake will make a noise. Check the air box to make sure the connection to the engine intake system is tight and check box for cracks. There might be an intake air leak in this area ahead of the MAF. If there was an air leak after the MAF I think the engine's behavior would let you know. Sincerely, Macster.

Thanks, I've got the EVOMS CAI kit fitted and checked the seals, all looks good. It's definetely coming from under the airbox area, kind of near the engine mounts. I'm going to a meet with about 30 other pcars this weekend so I'll get some feedback and comparison, it didn't always do this which is why it's confusing...?
