Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

This is a 99/996 with almost 60K, and I had the coolant tank replaced by the shop(my wife thought it was to much labor for me) with a new cap, went for a twenty min ride and noticed a puddle of anti freeze at the rear of the car drivers side, a much larger puddle than I had before the new tank.
Leading evidence: 'Replace by the shop(my wife thought it was' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check air oil separator' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I will take it back as advised and have them check their work.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The dealer replaced to a new tank w/ a new cap under Xtended warranty and no more leak since then.
I have been trying to pin down a coolant leak for a month now. The shop said they had done a pressure test fir 1/2 hour and no leaks, so I am thinking this leak might be heat related? If this is temp related I dont know what part might expand to allow this leak, and I dont know how much I lose when in transit, or am I losing just when the car shuts down, for what ever reason, the temp at the guage is @ 180F so I dont think I am over heating.Any and all thoughts will be welcome!! Halvin
That is strange, something but still be lose (clamps, connectors, etc...). My old tank used to leak only after a a long drive as heat and pressure built-up and coolant would leak through tiny cracks in the tank. The dealer replaced to a new tank w/ a new cap under Xtended warranty and no more leak since then. That was 2 years ago. You should go back to the shop and maybe take a drive with the Tech to confirm the leak. He may be able to better diagnost the leak location. Good-luck and let us know what was the root cause... Cheers.
180 degrees or slightly higher is normal for my 99' 996, but coolant on your garage floor isnn't normal. I overfilled my coolant once and it managed to 'leak', but a newer cap solved my issue, still my original tank.
Yes, 180 degree range is what I meant, actualy this is a cool running Porsche compared with the air cooled, I have had. I will take it back as advised and have them check their work. And I will keep you posted! Thanks Halvin
Today... I decided to check the plumbing on the coolent tank (connectors) as advised, and there it was a new connector not tightened enough!! So leak solved, and shame on the mechanic for sloopy work. I think I will replace the hose as it might be a little tired. Lesson learned, check the little stuff be for the expensive...Thanks to you guys for the help!!
YA YOU KNOW THE MECHANIC THAT I HAD FOR MY EARLY CARS WOULD SAY DONT TOUCH PORSCHE CARS THEY ARE TO DIFFERENT FOR YOU, BUT I LEFT THAT SHOP BECAUSE A PORSCHE IS MECHANICAL LIKE ANY OTHER CAR AND WHY CANT A REGULAR GUY WORK ON THEM? i DONT SEE WHY NOT, JUST USE COMMON SENSE AND LOGICAL THINKING AND NOT BE FEARFUL OF THE GRAND PORSCHE MYSTIC!
I was experiencing a slight coolant leak, having to top the coolant tank every month or two. I didn't have any evidence of leaking fluid.
Even though the cap looked fine, I ordered a replacement reservoir coolant cap, and after 3 months of driving frequently, am happy to report that the coolant level has not dropped.
So, sometimes, its the cap.
