I checked craigslist, and surprisingly nothing in the two nearest zones.

Suggestion
I didn't do one on mine b/c it was CPO'd, but I would run away from an anti-PPI seller, dealer or not.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I had been waiting to get a few numbers before my purchase of a new car and theyre in, so now it's time to really hunt. Below is my ideal criteria, and I was just curious if anyone thinks this is really unreasonable. I don't think it is:
02+ Vert with Hardtop
Any color (Any color. Red last, then prob yellow 2nd to last. Loving the boxster red interior lately)
Manual
Mileage around 50k or less
Clean title, less owners the better
Really Want:
Litronics
Heated Seats - either seat type is fine
Full Leather
PSM
Would be nice (but ok without):
PSE
Bose
Price ~$30k (or less).
I don't see a reason why this isnt doable. Price point seems to limit me more toward 02's than anything newer. Forums haven't had any verts lately, and autotrader has been okay but not perfect. Found one I liked, listing at $32.5k. 1 owner 42k miles. May try to see it this sat/sun.
Is it just that verts are less common that I'm not finding a ton of them? I don't think my price is too low for an 02.
edit:
Second part to the question:
Any reason to not look at a 1 owner car with 64k miles that looks otherwise in good shape and is priced just under $29k asking? I wanted more like 50k miles, but I'm wondering if those 10-15k will really make a huge diff. It doesnt list actual factory options, so i cannot tell if it has heated seats, full leather (can you tell just from a pic of interior?) or psm
really? verts seem to be a bit more, but maybe its just bc there are more coupes around me.
I checked craigslist, and surprisingly nothing in the two nearest zones. I have to check some of the surrounding states.
Ill check out vast too never heard of that. thanks
My experience was that convertibles were a $5K - $10K premium when I bought last fall.
I think you'll have to search reasonably hard to find what you're looking for <$30K. I think some of your requests are just going to make it a really tough find (full leather, for example).
You can definitely find a 996 for <$30K in this market, but your combination of options and history are going to make it a hard find.
I was in the same place last fall, admittedly about a month before prices fell through the floor, and ended up at about $50K for the car I really wanted. There's been depreciation in the last 5 months, but not 40%.
EDIT: On the other hand, you could probably get this one down to the low 30's if you worked at it in this economy:

I believe that is exactly what you're looking for...
Convertibles traditionally sell for more than coupes across all brands. Holds even more so for Porsche. You can absolutely get what you're looking for at your price. In fact, should be fairly easy to come by.
Yeah, I think the meister is incorrect too. Cabs always run more. I had the same ideas that you have about price, options, etc. when I did my research a couple years ago. What I discovered when I actually started driving these cars was that there was a reason they were so cheap. The cheaper ones were usually abused in some way or another. The old saying goes, you get what you pay for. But, that having been said, best of luck in your quest. Maybe I should sell you mine and upgrade. It has almost every option you mentioned and then some.
have you been watching Seattle craigslist? (just south of you) and if you go to Washington, there is a sub-catagory of Bellingham too... even better.
Prices are still showing high here for some reason, but not much is selling so - money talks -

Is not that convertibles inherently sell for more but it's because they are more expensive initially. All cars depreciate at a percentage rate of the original price. Convertibles cost more originally and thus for the same model year, resell for more.
That's why the Boxster is less expensive than the Cayman, it's MSRP is lower to begin with.

Might also be the time of year. It's still cold outside but spring is just upon us, so not quite convertible season, but almost. You may have more cars available in the market as it gets warmer.
Have you tried looking at the auctions or going through a broker who can access auction cars? There maybe some more available cars there.
Thats actually the exact one I saw on cars.com for $32.5 that I'm thinking of going to look at this weekend
might be dumb, but the Advanced Technic Package .. what's that more commonly known as? Is that psm?
I havent tried auctions yet. Youre talking like manheim? I think I know a few ppl on another board that can access it. Ill be honest tho, I know some real deals can be had on there, but im kind of scared of auctions. The last thing I want is a car with hidden problems that I need to worry about fixing as soon as I get it.
+1
When I was shopping for my 996, I didn't notice any difference in price between the cabs and the coupes.
Er, yes, that's exactly the point. Other than the roof, they're the same car but the cab model (the Boxster) is several thousand dollars cheaper to buy new.
I'm reasonably sure that the Advanced Technic Package is xenon headlamps, plus upgraded Bose sound system with CD changer. PSM was not included in this package. I believe, but am not positive, that PSM was standard, not an option on a 2002 C4.
Porsche Nashua is where I bought mine, and they were very solid compared to most Boston-area dealers. And if you need somebody to take that extra set of winter wheels and tires off your hands, let me know...
Awesome thanks. Okay I wasnt sure if that package was what you listed or some other wording of PSM. Thanks for clarifying I believe you're correct.
Do dealers find it strange if you request a PPI on a car they are selling? I'd imagine they have to fix anything major, but it's always nice to know about any smaller hidden quirks.
I have a set of winter wheels and tires for an M3 if that helps
I'm sure they'd understand the PPI, especially for a non-local buyer. I didn't do one on mine b/c it was CPO'd, but I would run away from an anti-PPI seller, dealer or not.
The M3 wheels would have been perfect for my last car, but not so good for the current one; I actually seem to have made it through winter on the summer tires, surprisingly enough.
Yeah I don't think this is CPO'd. I wish it was, but I don't see it listed as such. It is a 1 owner, so wouldn't it technically be eligible?
And that's impressive. We had some days down by me where I barely made it in snow tires, but that was more b/c the snow was much higher than my front lip or bc my town doesnt understand how to plow w/o making it worse
It doesn't look CPO'd - it might be past the age limit for a CPO (is it 6 years or 8 years?). Last fall, they gave me the option of buying mine CPO'd or not, the price difference was about $1,000 or $1,500. So I'd ask them if that's available.
It's not that impressive, there were several completely undrivable days where I just didn't leave the house until things cleared up...
I've never done this, but you could go through a broker/dealer who knows Porsches and buying them at auction. You give them your spec and they find a car for you. Have them arrange a PPI to protect yourself. I would suspect that in the current economy there are more cars being traded and coming off lease than there are retail buyers. And that many will end up at auction.
