Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I had a similar experience when they installed my K40, they managed to scrape the top portion inside part of my steering wheel and nicked by center console on my then new 997.

Next, and I did not notice this until a couple weeks later, they broke one of the AC duct vanes, and used a little glob of putty to hold it up temporarily.

i'm almost certain that those on this board that used a high-end car audio shop would find under the dash or behind their console very shameful policing of wires.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

i know this is circuit city and they're gone, but i suspect something similar would occur at best buy or cartunes and the like.

$50k in damage plus $50 diminished value is what i gather from the article.
Lumping in Best Buy/Circuit City/Cartunes with "audio shops" is a bit like comparing your local Midas franchise to your trusted porsche-specialized indy shop.
You might take your 911 turbo to Meineke for service, but when they screw it up, is it
really
their fault that you cheaped out?
I know the guy and heard the story from him.... he got some of the money not all, since CC filed. It wasnt just a drive in the parking lot either... the worst story Ive heard in awhile.
BTW, The car is in beautiful condition, 997T cab with brand new monoblock wheels! Its all behind him now.
But, why CC!!!
there are VERY few car audio shops that do serious custom work and take a similar level of TLC that i would take to do the job myself.
most places leave a birds net of wiring everywhere or a "ball" of wires electrical taped together. no careful work, no craftsmanship. i'm almost certain that those on this board that used a high-end car audio shop would find under the dash or behind their console very shameful policing of wires.
but what do you expect? even so-called "high-end" shops pay their workers $10-15/hour? not exactly high enough wages for quality craftmanship.
now i'm generalizing here. there might be 1 or 2 shops out there that have great workers who work carefully and deliberately, but given pressures to maintain quick turn arounds and volume of business to make a profit, it just seems highly unlikely.
for that matter... any shop !
I think the general concern of "a test ride to see what this baby can do" is real
followed shortly there after by the "awe sh*t, it goes straight when you turn the wheel"
as for me... that would be a blessing, but not for all ....
This story reminds me of this:

I think these joy rides happen no matter where you leave your car - big chain stores or small shops or dealerships. The only thing I do is to go with my gut feeling, personal experience (pacific porsche

Once upon a time I'm driving home with my wife along the highway (427 S in Toronto) and I get cut off by some nut in a ford mustang who does a triple lane change back across the highway once past me and goes for a gap between two cars... that is shrinking... He hits the brakes gets into a big tank slapper and tags the right rear of one of the cars he was trying to pass. This sends hims (all four tires locked and smoking) across traffic into the armco drivers left. I pull over to the right and pull up behind the lady that he hit further down the highway. We get out and look back up the highway to see this idiot back across 6 lanes of traffic at a 90 degree angle (Just past the airport expressway/401 on-ramps) with steam coming out of everywhere.
He goes past us trailing fluids and pulls in front of the woman he hit and jumps out and without even looking at her starts questioning me or yelling, "I hit YOU'?? I'm driving a new (at the time Vette) and before I can even reply a cop pulls up behind me - parks and without even looking at anyone else says to me, " You cause an accident"? I point to Jackie Stewart - driver of the Mustang and sigh. (Red Vette's get no respect.
)
Later I fill out the witness report - get a kiss from the woman who had her car damaged and off we go home.
TWO WEEKS LATER:
My brother in law needs his Targa painted and he's getting this great deal from a Ford dealer as he knows the owner and needs a ride back after he drops his car off. So I follow him to Cruikshank Motors on Weston Rd and as we park our cars at the body shop door - who do I see washing one of the cars? You got it. As soon as he sees me he takes off inside.
Turns out the little p***k (age 19) had 'borrowed' the mustang that was in for service which I found out later was a write off as the engine was pushed into the firewall among all the other damage. Here's the s***y part of the story. He was the body shop managers son and wasn't fired!! He was charged with six charges and must have plead out as I was never called to court.
I've heard of people fired for really minor stuff and this little SOB gets to keep his job?? I wrote a letter to Ford Canada after I found this out but they never got back to me.
Ford can kiss my....
CC stinks. I had them put a Sirius radio in my BMW (3 yr old model was not prewired). What a crap job. First, they put the puck antenna on the dash- just sat it there! Then they wired it directly to the unswitched power so it has to be manually shut off or it drains the batterty. Next, they scratched the fascia trim on the dash taking it out. Next, and I did not notice this until a couple weeks later, they broke one of the AC duct vanes, and used a little glob of putty to hold it up temporarily. Lastly, they were even too stupid to know where the antenna is for the FM repeater and put the antenna for that in the wrong place. Complete distaster. I, however, blame myself- I should have gone to a higher end shop; I thought surely they could handle a very simple Sirius install. I redid it myself in about a hour or two. What I find amazing is the complete and utter lack of any pride of workmanship by the shop. I went back and spoke to the mgr and told them so. Glad they are kaput.
I had a similar experience when they installed my K40, they managed to scrape the top portion inside part of my steering wheel and nicked by center console on my then new 997. They paid for all damages, $800.00 worth because I got them both covered in matching color leather.
