Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Dan is right for sure, I watched the 944 forums change drastically over the years

Those last 4 are headed to do sweep duty at the live missle range in the Pacific, and will replace the P3C and C130 currently stationed there for range clearing patrols.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Is it in my head? Nothing against the 997 Forum, but I must admit, the 996 forum is much more active and has a greater variety of discussions. Boy, am I glad I have a 996.
Each forum has its pluses and minuses.
It's interesting to watch the evolution of each as the cars age. For example, the vast majority of discussion on the 928 forum is how to fix this and that. Much of the 996 discussion focuses upon what mods people are doing. About 2 years ago the 997 forum was simply one guy comparing this option and that when ordering a car. In time, the 997 forum will evolve into something closer to the 996, while the 991 forum will be consumed with "what option will look good with..."
This is typical of any car forum. Excellent summary Dan. New cars can only distinct themselves with colors and options because aftermarket parts are bing developed. Older cars have the mod options and people are trying to get their best bang for their buck. Old cars just need to find a way to stay on the road or the quirks are popping up here and there.
All the above, plus the fact that the 997 folks are still under warranty for the most part and so doing mods might void that. Only so much room to play for them right now.
We, however, are not so encumbered. And we have a decade of aftermarket growth to support us. It might actually turn the corner the other way again if you drop back to the 993's because now they are afraid of destroying the originality and resale value of the last air-cooled 911's. We don't have that problem either.
We are FREE, I tell you! FREE!
Wait a sec - isn't that supposed to start with "I have a dream..."???
For my part - I don't look at any of the other forums, but I did sign up on a couple of other sites. This site seems to have the most activity... with most of the activity on the other sites coming from guys that are on here too...
What I like about this site is that everyone is willing to help and there is a ready willingness to take the first humorous off-ramp... Renntech, while very informative, is a little dry and I go there for specific reasons... but this place is a great place to "hangout" and raises our common obsession to the level of entertainment... which is why it is one of the windows that stays up on my computer all day...
My $0.02 (and change...)

What I have always liked about Rennlist it is generally a
FUN
forum, good tech info and people with a sense of humor. It's a good mix for sure.
Yes, sometimes it gets ugly, especially in the Politics arena but if one keeps their perspective it's a great forum for sure.
And this is why some days... I dont get much work done
Actually, this has been the slowest the forum has been sinced I joined. I used to lose threads I created within hours. Now, I bet it would linger for days...
Well, I think the whole board has slowed down the last couple weeks. I am attributing that to Spring. Not as many folks land-locked in their houses with cabin fever and nowhere else to play, other things to do now, events cranking up in the northern climes, and a slight general thaw in the recession mentality, as well. Porsche owners are not ones to sit on their hands all day and stare blankly into the abyss. Only so much internet and then it's time to DO something!
whats cool about this place is that we have in a way, our own Off Topic... I like Off Topics but those guys over there are just out of control. Here I can post an off topic and not get any sh*t about moving the post to the off topic section... it doesnt always have to be a 996 or car at that.
Tim, I think the moderators killed the Disregard thread because someone posted a pic that was too explicit!
All they had to do was delete that one post and we could have moved on. But nooooo..... they deleted the whole thread!
Oh... sh*t.... when did you become a moderator? I wouldnt of noticed till you mentioned it.... I was thinking, we have a moderator?
Those effin moderators....
Heck, I would easily buy a Cayman, but I don't want to hang out with those guys over there... zzzzzzzz and BOR-ing. The party is happening here in the 996 area.
Marc, I agree that if there is an offending post or pic that only that post should be edited out, and a warning sent to the poster to reign it in.
Heck, if it wasn't for the 996 Forum here, I'd be forced to sit quietly and play with my weiner(mobile) which I have offically retired today as my avatar.
^^^ thundertub.... I got the camera, thanks for the fast shipment. Cant wait to video my kids on his Big Wheels... mounted of the handle bars....
Oh and to bad you retired your weiner (mobile).
Go NAVY!
Well this answers my question about whether or not you guys check out the other areas. As for the 996 forum, yeah, seems good and I agree that the age of the car shapes the direction in the forum. What I haven't seen is a "what you like best/worst" thread.
Redridge,
Glad to hear you got the camera! You are SO going to enjoy that thing, especially with kids.
Not sure how long I will keep the new avatar. The last S3B Viking squadron, VS 22, stood down and was decomissioned a couple weeks ago, here in Jax. They were my first S3A squadron all the way back in 1978 when the aircraft were still brand new, and NAS Cecil Field was a Master Jet Base (now a growing business center owned by the City of Jacksonville). All but 4 S3B's are headed to Davis-Monthon for mothballing. Those last 4 are headed to do sweep duty at the live missle range in the Pacific, and will replace the P3C and C130 currently stationed there for range clearing patrols.
P3C squadrons here in Jax have been scaling down as well. There are no squardrons left at NAS Brunswick, ME, also being turned over to the State of Maine as a result of the Base Realignment program. The 5 remaining East Coast P3C squadrons, including VP 30, the training command, will soon begin transitioning to the P7, a new aircraft based on the Boeing 737 airframe. Hard to imagine Maritime Patrol not being flown in Lockheed built aircraft. I have over 5500 hours in P3C's and 2800 hrs in S3A's. Also have over 500 traps: 200+ on the USS Saratoga CV-60, 100+ on the USS John F. Kennedy CV-67, and 200+ on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower CVN-69. Only the Ike still sails.
But then I have been retired from the Navy almost as long as I was IN the Navy. (heavy sigh)
