Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

18 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I know. How tiresome. Today I called Porsche Zentrum Frankfurt to get an appointment to have our winter tires/rims swapped out for our summer set. Frau Arnolt called back and told me we need new front tires, apparently we're right down to the legal limit on tread wear. Our current summer tires are Conti SportContact 2's, 225/40 R18 & 285/30 R18... I'm not sure I like the Continentals, and having done my Rennlist homework I find that some here share my opinion Cut to the chase. Assuming I'll need rear tires real soon here are my choices from www.reifendirekt.de (like tirerack.com) Pirelli P Zero Rosso N4 Bridgestone Potenza S-02A N3 Bridgestone Potenza S-02 N2 Continental SportContact 2 N2 Some points to consider Plain Jane 996 Cabrio, not a Carrera S or C4 This 966 has never been/won't be track driven (not by us anyhow) It rains quite regularly in Germany My wife has reached 140mph briefly, my personal best is 138mph Plain Jane spends a lot of time in the garage, but often when she's taken out she'll have to do a 10 hour day and travel 500 miles or more (high speed burns to wine growing districts of France) I want 1. Safety 2. Grip (wet&dry) 3. Ride comfort/noise What say you?

POST 2Original post

Do a search. Recent posts suggest the Sumitomo HRTZ III.

POST 3Original post

Dealer put a brand new set of the Continental SportContact 2 N2 on my car when I bought it, I don't really like them. The Conties however are pretty good in the wet. I have always had very good luck with the S02's but I thought they were discontinued?

POST 4Original post

Continental SportContact3s. Near PS2s level grip (on the street, not at all noticeable) at ~20%+ discount tire for tire. YMMV

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Gentlemen: I gave you my four (4) options. This is a limited menu we're looking at. Please try and focus.

POST 6Original post

I wouldn't recommend any of them. None stand out of the crowd. Just pick one on price/availability.

POST 7Original post

Out of the choices you gave... Bridgestone Potenza S-02A N3

POST 8Original post

Not to hijack the thread but are the Sumitomo HRTZ III Porsche rated?

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 6401833

They are not on the Porsche Approved Original Equipment tire list. For the 996 they only recommend the following: Bridgestone Potenza S-02 A (N3) Continental ContiSportContact 2 (N2) Michelin Pilot sport Rib (N1) Pirelli P Zero System Asimmetrico (N4)

I have 15K miles on my tires right now, when they are done the Sumis are going on, rated or not.

POST 13Original post

Only when paired with 5w-50.

POST 14Original post

I have the Sumi's III's. So far so good on the street. Maurice in Cape Cod.......Interested in the P Zero Rosso's I have?

POST 15Original post

My wallet is not Porsche rated either. If OP Wants to stick with approved tires due to being in europe and adhering to their rules of equipment that you can put on the car (if it applies in this case) then get the bridgestones

POST 16Original post

Make sure whatever you but they don't sell you old tires!! http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete...&AID=10398365&

Whatcha doing buying obsolete tires anyhow? The technology progresses every year; if the design is so old that you have to worry about picking up old inventory, you're probably better off with a different tire.

POST 18Original post

My car is a 2001, old technology tires will be fine,I just don't want the rubber to be old.
