Suggestion · Original poster

it would have been much easier to replace the whole frame with new bushings already installed as it took me half a day to figure out the bushings need to be secured to the frame holes like a trans mount.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

My '99 has the part and when replaced, it fixed the problem the OP described.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Have an issue on my 99 where the horn will activate going over bumps. Got to the point where I had to pull the fuse. Wondering if a new Clockspring will solve the issue. Thoughts?

POST 2Original post

Sounds like classic worn rubber parts in the retaining frame. Part # 993.347.088.01, about $70.00. I read somewhere that you can buy the bushings separately too.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

makes sense. May also explain why the horn feels flush when press. Thanks!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quick Google search found the bushings at Zims Autotechnik. $12.50 each x4. Thanks!

POST 5Original post

I dont think we have that part on our car. Im pretty sure thats a non-air bag assembly. Unless thats the part under the airbag on a 4 spoke? Your issue is a chaffed wire or under the airbag. Pull the air bag and inspect. Its only 2 t30(i think) screws. Here is a pic from just doing a hub and quick disco wheel. Its what u would see with the wheel removed.

My '99 has the part and when replaced, it fixed the problem the OP described. And yes, it was a 4 spoke wheel. YMMV

POST 7Original post

My horn started to do the same thing, 4 spoke steering wheel. I replaced the entire frame. Of course it came with new rubber bushings. Got a little over twenty one years with the old frame & bushings. Simple enough job and you get to sit in your seat while doing it! Here is some help https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...-the-horn.html

There u go its a 4 spoke thing. I learned something today, nice.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Finally got around to installing new bushings on the frame. I finally have a working horn again! it would have been much easier to replace the whole frame with new bushings already installed as it took me half a day to figure out the bushings need to be secured to the frame holes like a trans mount. Then it took another hour or so to figure how to secure the bushings to the frame. Thanks guys for ruling out the Clockspring and pointing me to Zims for new frame bushings.
