Actually, a wood spar with UV protection is used diluted 40-60% mineral spirits.
Leading evidence: 'Use diluted 40-60% mineral spirits' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'solution' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace oe lights' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I've used the mothers kit on a friends car with the same condition and it came out great.

that is probably the solution but I don't have a set of OEMs

These will replace the OE lights with the orange turn indicators.

Seriously, the LEDs for the blinker and running light are very hit and miss.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I know, but every now and then I see a pic where I think it looks pretty good. But it's very hit and miss so would like to see it in person
i think they fit this boxster pretty good.
But perhaps what I like the most is the litronic/xenon look, with the "eye" in the middle, more like the 997's...
In person, they look cheap and out of place. The design does not match the car and the LED lights are in a generic pattern that does not compliment the car, and there are way more of them than necessary.
Of course, it's your car, do as you please. But, they will severely cheapen the car.
That's one thing I'm not too happy about. I don't really like the OEM headlights.
I don't really the LED one's I currently have on either. Mine are the black housing which look better IMO than the chrome one's pictured. They look decent with the lights off but with the light's on...well...no comment.
Conclusion...I currently have the black LED headlight's and don't really like them...but don't want to go back to OEM's either...there's got to be another solution
I agree. I saw one with LED headlights today (A boxster) and it was absolutely awful.
If you want to update your headlights - go with the CGT retrofit kit - here you go:

To each his own, I like them and I've had numerous compliments about them. Plug and play, they fit fine and haven't jumped off the car yet! I even bought bought a pair of used litronic OEM 996 headlights off ebay and was going to install those but I liked these better. If someone is looking for a set of original 996 litronic units give me a shout.
I agree with geetee regarding the look with the lights on though, if I drove more at night I'd probably do the Xenon upgrade.
I agree with the above post...I like them. I have the black version currently installed on my Boxster and plan to install them on my black 996. These will replace the OE lights with the orange turn indicators.
Although the CGT build quality looks great, they look too small and empty when put inside the OE housing. I will say the light output with halogen bulbs are ok at best, but plan on adding some xenon bulbs perhaps in the future.
In my case 2 attempts with different systems at polishing out the lenses on my OEM lights didn't result in a satisfactory look so it was an easy decision for me. That picture of the 2 silver cars above showing the comparison shows this perfectly.
Those things are complete garbage and look terrible. Seriously, the LEDs for the blinker and running light are very hit and miss.
This is what you want
The Mother's kit is really only meant for lightly scratched or faded lights. For lenses with more substantial pitting you would most likely need to do multiple stages of wet sanding(400,600,800,1000,1200,1500,), followed by a couple steps of DA machine polishing. The important thing with any polishing, would be making sure the lenses are UV protected or you will encounter yellowing eventually.
i don't have any pitting, it's just oxidation. It comes with a few pads of wet sanding and the power ball thingy. If it doesn't work I'll go the full wet sanding route.
Yes, you will need to coat with a good UV coating or the yellow will come back. Actually, a wood spar with UV protection is used diluted 40-60% mineral spirits. Google headlight restoring and you should find some good detailing forums discussing this process.
Mother's is one of the kits I tried. Part of my business is stone fabrication so I understand the process of finishing using different grits and polishing materials. To me it's just an inherent difference in the plastics overall. I got the best results with the Mothers and while the OEM lights came out good I just like the plastic on the Chinese lights better. I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't hold up any where near as well as OEM but my car is not a DD.
I have the LED's and I like them. They were not plug and play however as they would not lock. I guess this is a problem with about 20% of the cars. It required reprofiling the ramp areas for the lock. I did it with a vixen file little by little until I achieved a hard lock. My originals were burned by HID's and you cant buff that out.
Hi there,
I'm putting new headlights and when i pulled the left one out i found the yellow headlight fastener to be missing. i ordered one and am trying to install it, but having a bit of an issue bc i don't know how it clips on i don't want to force it in case i might break something. Any advise? i've attached a picture of the left (missing) and the right (the yellow clip is on)
Thanks in advance
