I remember seeing the 40th when they were new, awesome vehicles and not easy to replace when you take into consideration ALL the options on it, especially the engine!

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

This was a cash offer. Real dollars. My choice to take a check or use towards another car on their lot. No requirements.
I would love a 997 turbo. Just don't have the extra cash right now to upgrade.
I love my 996. Drive it as much as I can. 6k-8k miles per year (summer) and store in winter.
Any idea how much I can expect to continue to lose in depreciation over the next years?
If the offer is this good, wonder if it would be worth it to sell and go porscheless for a couple years and save more cash for 997 turbo.
Thoughts?
Other option would be sell both the 996 and v10 Touareg and get a 2006 Cayenne Turbo. Bank the left over cash towards a 997 turbo in a coupke years.
Or buy a 2008 Cayenne turbo and wait a little longer to save for a 997 turbo.
I thought about this. My issues is that I really like everything about my v10. Not to mention the versatility of a 4 door with a hatch. We do quite a bit outside and the SUv is perfect.
The 997 is a great car. Just not sure it would work as my only car year round.
A buddy of mine pretty much convinced me that although the 996 has not held it's value, that we most likely will hit a "floor" on value of say $$20k to 25k. When I see what 1999's are selling for I feel pretty safe with his assumption for the later gen of the 996. I have an 04 C2 coupe and the above has been my rationalization for both driving it almost daily and deciding to hang on to it and enjoy it. For me, I'd rather drive it for 2 more years and have it be worth say $10k less rather than go with out it - like you, I like my title in hand when I bring a car home. I originally bought it to experience driving it, and it has been 4 years and almost 45,000 miles and I still look forward to my drive to work every day.
Banking the $30k towards a 997tt is tempting. But, I also believe that my 40th is slowing down in the depreciation arena.
Paying cash is important for me. As an entrepreneur, my income can be quite volatile. Keeping overhead to a minimum is critical for my sanity. In the end, there is no right or wrong. Just what works for you.
Did you go to Beachwood or North Olmsted? North Olmsted has a 40th listed at $44,991 but it's CPO and has about 20k miles. I bet they would list yours for for $39,990 if it can't be CPOd.

Ryan,
If you have Carmax near you, take it to them for an offer to buy appraisal. Carmax offered me $1,200 more for my Honda than the P-dealer offered as a trade in on the 997.
remember that you also have to factor in the tax saving when you trade in. So if you sell your car yourself, remember to remove whatever % sales taxes you have in your region from the price, when you compare your selling price to the dealer trade-in, so you compare apple to apple.
But i agree carmax is giving good values.
I went without a Porsche for most of 2008. Not a good feeling.
I think we agree that $30K is a nice offer, but it isn't all that much of a start on a 997TT really.
Maybe you're most of the way to a 996TT but the 40th is more special anyway isn't it?
I guess I'm saying that if you like your car then just keep it.
I am probably going to hang tight for a bit. Might kick myself later for not selling now but, I really enjoy the vehicle. It will be going away for storage in a couple months. Currently the cost difference between my car and the one I want is too great to pull the trigger.
I don't think you will get any less next spring. That motor is nice. I drove one back to back when I bought my targa from Stoddard and also a 2005 997. It is much more rev happy than the regular M96 motor.
I actually liked the 40th X50 motor much better than the 2005 997 motor.
I went through the same logic sequence and sold my 40th with a 100,000 warranty for $46K several months ago. Unfortunately I soon fell in love with a pristine 356 Super 90 that now occupies that side of the garage. But then the 356 is going UP in value now so its a win-win. Although I would love to have the new 991, I have no intention of taking that depreciation hit again. There is no right answer. But Porscheless is an inhumane condition, no?

Trust me , i have mine in the garage with out driving it for a couple of years time and its a nightmare.
Being porscheless is not in my plans anymore.... God willing
