Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I would also recommend a full 4-wheel alignment from the dealer as long as the tires appear to be good.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

not nearly enough info to make a real opinion...IMS fix = what? tip or 6speed, options, PPI done - results, maintenance records? # of owners, from dealer or private, maybe a few other things - some pics?
If 27k includes the IMS bearing (LN engineering) and RMS updates, has good history and you like everything else about the car - then get it. Sometimes it's difficult to find the exact car you want (PPI fails etc). If it is everything you are looking for, or close enough, I'd say go for it.
Thanks so much for the help here, gentlemen. The current owner is hands-off....as in when I told him I was interested in the 996he had for sale, he corrected me and told me it was a 911, not 996 . He bought it with about 15k miles on it in 2006 and has put 11k on since then. He has only done oil changes (8 total) and changed an ignition. Car is a manual. Stock other than full leather and upgraded steering wheel. No pics. PPI showed the rms leak, a leak at the spark tubes (one side) and a hairline crack in the front bumper. Has agreed to sell for 24k. I figured I'd do the rms /IMS fixes and have a near perfect low mileage car for 27k. VIN is wpoca2995xs653865. Thanks ! Wouldn't consider this purchase without input from this forum.
Well, based on what you have told us, it does sound like a reasonable purchase for the asking price. Oh, you will get lots of guys here who will tell you to pay (or they recently paid) less than $20k. Hard to confirm those claims and hard to know the actually buying experience of those folks.
But there is a real nice '99 Vesuvio C2 cab, 6-speed, with sport seats and Turbo 18" wheels, with 27K miles, at my local dealer right now for asking price of $33K with no warranty or history. So with that as my data point, your price and the IMS/RMS figured in, sounds good.
If you do purchase the car, your first expense should be a 30,000 Mile Service and Inspection from a Porsche dealership. That way you set a solid service baseline, their labor and parts are warrantied for a year, and you can then decide when to do the RMS/IMS.
I would also recommend a full 4-wheel alignment from the dealer as long as the tires appear to be good. Hard to believe that the original tires would still be good on this car, especially if he has not had an alignment in 13 years.

Not much. The "accident" was the front bumper hairline crack. PPI saw no other evidence of damage. Certainly nothing painted. No secondary signs of damage.

Thanks, again.
Ivangene,
$24K purchase , I put in $3K to fix RMS and IMS and out-the-door for $27K total. If it sounds good to a guy with 14,279 posts, I think I'm done asking questions !
LOL - all that means is I am a blabber mouth!!
I dont think it sounds out of line...as stated above some people will say its worth $20k and some more...if the car is what you want and comes back clean...low miles premium, educated buyer...I think you are in the ball park
(BTW I have checked out quite a few of thopse low cost cars for people on this site and can tell you most of them fail to measure up...pics and internet pricing -vs- real work hands on + big gaps)
easy to buy a turd
26k miles for $27k, sounds like a decent deal to me. At least it is a fair price, may be not the bargain of the century but totally fair it the car looks good. Excellent condition car with all paperwork and all would certainly cost $32-35k.
