Suggestion

If the above is true, then without the original documentation of dealer install it is truly no different than any other clone, granted using OEM parts makes it more valuable than a clone with aftermarket parts, its still a clone and inherently worth less than a true factory aero car.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, I'm having trouble navigating the forums. I'm in search of an aerokit 996 carrera within the $40k range. I'm in the Denver, CO area and closer is better but I'm not opposed at all to out of state or even cross-country sellers. I do not want a cabriolet, and ideally it'll have less than 90k miles on it. Let me know what you have! Thanks so much.

POST 2Original post

Mileage shouldn’t be a primary concern maintenance needs to be also to get a factory Aero 911 under the hood is an option sticker the letters XAA represents the car you want everything else is aftermarket or after thought GLWS

POST 3Original post

Quotes source post: 17983580

Or dealer installed factory parts like most of the ones I've seen. Unless you're buying the car as an "iNvEsTmEnT" XAA doesn't matter.

POST 4Original post

Quotes source post: 17985674

This. And most of the non-XXA cars with dealer installed Aerokits pull within 5% (or equal to) selling price of comparable XXA cars anyway. Consider XXA a bonus, but definitely don't consider non-XXA a deterrent.

POST 5Original post

I’m sorry boys an add on is aftermarket regardless of where the parts were bought factory cars are different it wouldn’t matter if I buy a turbo S or a turbo with stuff from an S to make as a Turbo S the future resale market knows what they want that’s why an original car no matter what it is commands more money

POST 6Original post

Quotes source post: 17985923

"An add on is aftermarket regardless of where parts were bought." What, dude? OEM Aerokit installed by dealer is definitely not aftermarket.

POST 7Original post

I’m just saying it’s not factory not that it doesn’t look good I’ve got plenty of add ons that aren’t factory but if I were buying a car factory issued is my starting point

POST 8Original post

You and me have the right to do anything for or out of the car but it’s as these cars age originality is what gets you the most resale in the future if you plan on keeping it forever this plan doesn’t matter too much

POST 9Original post

I had an aerokit several years back. Beautiful cars. Good luck with your search. Maybe watch Bring A Trailer or here.

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 17985923

Saw your post quoted, and took this one off ignore just to echo how ridiculous this take is.

POST 11Original post

So an homage is the same as the real thing??? so I should buy a 4S add a turbo and call it a turbo S ??. im sure the same guys that are bucking the trend are driving the homage and nothing wrong with it but ….

POST 12Original post

How do you identify a dealer installed aero package? I would assume the only way is if you had the original invoice/receipts? Also, how are aero parts delivered to the dealership? I am assuming primed and ready for prep/paint? If the above is true, then without the original documentation of dealer install it is truly no different than any other clone, granted using OEM parts makes it more valuable than a clone with aftermarket parts, its still a clone and inherently worth less than a true factory aero car. Also, it would mean that any dealer installed aero car does not have the factory paint, which is another big con for collectors. If my assumptions are correct, then I definitely have to agree with NY. However, this is purely from a collectability stand point, for a driver who cares, so long as it was done well.

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 17986967

I would agree, only thing is if you were lucky enough to have the original invoice passed along from prior owners. More than likely primed and prepped, wouldn't make sense to have a bunch of pre-painted inventory for un-answered-for customers. Outside of that, could be like any of the other guys on here buying aero components and installing them themselves. At that point, it probably wouldn't matter much end of the day anyways. Unless it's a low mile well taken care of XAA, factory installed aero or not, they'll probably have similar worth to the average buyer.

POST 14Original post

The bulletin for a dealer install of a factory aerokit isnt for the faint of heart when it comes to the drilling and screwing of the skirts and spats. Documentation of an install prior to delivery may be desirable, but it's also not vastly different (or, different at all) if care was taken. Porsche isn't using unobtanium paint, for example - the dealers were using the same paint and a valid process. With that said, I'd look for gaps and uniformity of spacing on the side skirts and, if present, spats. The bumper and decklid/wing don't really take a lot of proficiency to install correctly. Paying a lot for an XAA code on a sticker is only worth it for concours-level cars, IMO. The dealer installs were sanctioned if not directed by Porsche. Early builds *seem* to have a higher prevalance of dealer installed aerokits, which I would propose may be due to car production ramping up more quickly than the body kit production.

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 17985923

100% Most 928s were automatics with leather interior and rub strips on the sides. Sure you can find one thats been swapped to a manual, or had Pasha installed inside, or had the rub strips removed, but it will never be worth as much as one that had them from the factory. The value of a non-XAA aero kit car is no different of a situation. The holds true for factory LSD cars. And Flachbau cars. Etc. etc. A P-car can be modified in any number of ways to suit an owners tastes, but the market shows time and time again that original cars with desirable factory-equipped specs will always command a premium.

POST 16Original post

There is more to the value of an Aero kit car than just the body kit. There are some other things that add value. The most notable on the early 99 cars would be the LSD, then the sport seats, then the 030 suspension and last would be other interior upgrades. So if you stumble on a car with LSD and sport seats you can add the Aero kit to it. However finding sport seats to match an existing car or putting in and LSD are more costly than the body kit. Just because the car is a factory XAA doesn't mean it is worth big bucks if it has the standard seats and no other options. Other things to consider are color combo, silver/black are the least desirable because there were a ton of them in those colors....unless combined with red leather. Speed yellow, gaurds red, any blue, white or any PTS colors would also be very desirable. The unicorn car is a Yellow/Red/Blue XAA, LSD, Sport Seat, 030 with all carbon trim and painted seat backs/belts. Value on these cars can't be pinned to one option code. It is a combination of things that makes it desirable.

POST 17Original post

Two Guards Red 996s in similar condition and mileage, except one has sport seats and the other doesnt but is a real XAA. And youre telling me that the sport seat car will pull just as much or more?

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 17983510

I've got 2 of what your looking for see my signature.

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 17987522

Yep, I have been watching BAT and other sales of these cars for a long time. Draped leather seats are a value killer even in an XAA. Sport seats are very hard to find and are usually a 5-10% premium. This goes for any Porsche BTW not just 996. You do drive the car from the inside so have a good driving experience is just as valuable as the car looking "cool". Honestly I can't figure out why more owners don't check the box for Sport seats when they order the car. It usually doesn't cost much and increases resale value. I haven't found them to be less comfortable than the standard seats, but if you drive aggressively at all the extra support is nice.

POST 20Original post

Quotes source post: 17987500

I just sold a 3/98 with a dealer-installed aerokit, the options you mention and a few more, and the market spoke even though I discounted it by about 10% to move it quickly.

POST 21Original post

Quotes source post: 17987541

Case in point, your car was very nice. Like I said, silver with red leather and all the other stuff makes the non factory installed XAA moot. This isn't all about one option code. I have a friend on the lookout for one of these unicorns now and he is willing to pay top dollar, but hasn't found the right car yet. When he does find it he will write the check very quickly. He has passed on dozens of silver XAA cars with nothing else.

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 17987536

Agree to disagree. (I've been watching BaT for years as well.)

POST 23Original post

Quotes source post: 17987500

In what world are sport seats and LSD more expensive than a factory aero kit? You can get a nice set of sport seats for $3k and guard LSD installed for about $5-6k and it is better than factory. Or net on a factory LSD transmission after selling your good one is probably less than $5k. For comparison, the last several taco wings I have seen for sale were all $4.5k+, and then you still need the bumper, side skirts, and paint. At best I think it would be a wash, but I'd wager an aero kit costs more in nearly all circumstances.
