Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use porsche factory parts' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use porsche factory parts' (1 discussions). Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Everyone,
I've been lurking here for a few months without an account while I shopped for the car. Got all the information I needed and just pulled the trigger last week-end. I figured it was about time I introduced myself.
Tracked motorcycles for a couple of years, got into a couple of bad accidents in 2009 and 2010, decided to go back to my original love: cars.
I wanted a C2, all motor, 6spd and RWD. I took my time finding the right car (and color) but in the end it was definitely worth it.
The car is still CPO'ed (until coming June) and when I sent it in for it's PPI at the Porsche dealership, they found a small oil leak. Started digging (under warranty), found a failing bearing (you know which one) but they caught it early and upgraded the shaft + bearing under warranty. Everything else checked out perfect. While they were in there, I had them throw in a new clutch. My new (to me) 996 has a fresh bottom-end and I think I got a pretty good deal on it.
And what about that color!
Thanks for all the info, helped greatly in the shopping / picking the right car process, I look forward to meeting some of the local members on drives and trackdays.
A few pictures (else it didn't happen)
WTG !!!
a new bottom and you have a great platform to enjoy for years to come - I assume its black inside? Looks clean as can be - very nice!
pumkins going or keeping the stock - either way....
welcome to the bright side
Yes, the inside is black. It's the cleanest 996 I could find and it happened to be the right combo / color.
As far as the orange bits, my birthday's coming up and I received a warning from my wife to NOT buy anything for the car. We'll see if she's actually paying attention when I go on and on about it.
2002, 78k miles and going strong. I plan on putting a lot more miles on it.
Rector is a Porsche / Audi dealership around here, like so many others I moved to the area for a job in IT.
Great looking car. Had a 64 MGB back in 73 that was the same color.
I'm glad you don't have the engine worries to bother you. Enjoy the heck out of it.
Oh yah thanks for the pics
Oh, it's much better than that. Simply swapping the bearing would probably lead to another failure in the future. They split the crank, upgraded the shaft and put a new bearing in at the same time.
I'm thinking they put in what they put into reman blocks.
I was curious too when they told me about it, however they're a reputable P dealer in the area. I also have the bills for all parts (including gaskets, bolts, shaft, new bottom-end of the connecting rods) for the work to be done. I've also seen my block disassembled while they were doing the work.
The car is under CPO, so they had to fix it now or let the engine blow up and swap it. I'll scan the bills and post them up later.
I talked to the advisor / tech a lot during the process, until I was comfortable with buying the car even after all the work.
Not sure what you mean by nothing? It's a known problem that could cost an engine and the work was paid for by PNA.
there was a 40th couple years ago that was torn down and got a new Ims rather than a new engine.... cpo, dealer did the same as you described.... so, you are not the first.
I wonder if Porsche is running out of reman motors and they have instructed the dealers to start doing this.
You said they used porsche factory parts? So they put in a Porsche manufactured bearing?
For anyone interested in finding out more about this, I'm attaching copies of my warranty work bill.
Going through the parts:
new I-Shaft kit
new bottom-half rod bearings
new oil pump
all bolts, gaskets and o-rings
Congratulations, you have a 996 in my favorite color - Speed Yellow. Drive the hell out of it, and find something (anything) else to talk to your wife about other than the Porsche. For whatever reason, many wives consider the car worse than a mistress!!!
ask me how I know.
Welcome to the club.

Ah, don't worry! My wife has the bug too. We met at a motorcycle race class, we tracked bikes together and her mother has a boxster s.
I think it's safe to say, our kids will have gasoline in their blood.
