Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Went to add a some oil to top on the reservoir and notice a brown and white residue in the oil fill tube. This residue wasn't present four months ago when the oil was changed. Based on my faulty memory, would this be an indication that water has been introduced into the oiling system?
I have no noticeable decrease in performance aside from the damn slow starter...curses
this is a normal thing that happens when these cars are driven on short trip (the water is not burned out) - not driven spiritedly - oil not changed frequently enough or poor oil choice made - the AOS if failing -
how are you driving it? (distance/day)
change interval / oil brand / weight
what RPM is normal for you
Guilty of the short trips, guilty of not driven spriitedly and lastly due to winter time the temp differentail is substantial.

Less than 10 miles--- a week
Oil change interval: When purshased at 67k-didnt trust dealer ship so I changed it. Current milage is 70K Oil is Syntec 5W-40 winter. Will change again in spring to 5W-50 for the summer.
RPMs, yeah I suck at that. My previous car was a supercharged V8 Saleen and it was very, very loud, so I kept the RPM's low 2500-3500. 996 RPM's are around the same....BTW the misses complains I dont wind the car out enough....man is she right.
I hope that is not a question.... but a statement
yea, she is right - and if my wife told me I wasnt winding it out enough.....
OK - you now know what do do - see you in about 3 hours.... go now....
As mentioned, you need to drive your Porsche at least until it gets to an indicated 180 degrees to help reduce moisture buildup. Go for a spirited drive for an hour and see if that solves your issue.
It is water just a mild condensation mixed with oil left over in the tube.
I clean it out with a paper towel every once in a while and less and less comes back the next time I check.
Longer trips do help.
Well the drive was GREAT!!!!! Need cheaper fuel...man the car burns alot of fuel at 5600 RPMs. Oh well, the Saleen got 9-12 mpg when the fun pedal was pushed.
I have empirical evidence, and lots of it, that spirited driving alone will not keep the goop away.
I run my car long and hard every day and I still get the goop in my filler tube, but only when I use cheap oil like Mobil 1. I switched to Motul and the goop only shows up occasionally now.
Yes, wet weather has something to do with it.
