Maybe I can use the non-OEM radio and buttons as a leverage point to get a much lower price.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

33 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I think I have found a car that I would like to buy. I am planning to visit the dealership this week. How much do you think I can negotiate the purchase price to? I have searched Edmunds and Kelly. I am a first time buyer of a Porsche. Thanks for everyone's help! Here is the link to the car I am considering. http://wallingford.porschedealer.com...35241/info.php

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Good catch. Got me! I will ask this week.

POST 4Original post

Since it's at a Porsche dealer get it CPO'd. If they say they won't or can't then there is probably some $$$ to be put into the car.

POST 5Original post

That looks very nice, love the seal grey, look like some nice options as well. Will your price include any warranty? GL

It's the button for the nitrous. Just kidding. They will not CPO that car. Since it has an aftermarket radio and some other non OE buttons (from the pic) Porsche will not allow the car to be CPO'd. It's a nice looking, lightly optioned car with nice miles. Very similar to mine but I got mine from a private owner 6 months after he bought from the dealer. (wife told him she wanted a beach house so the P-car had to go). The car you are looking at, while it is very nice, is a sub $30K car without a CPO. There are a bunch out there. If the dealer won't play ball then keep looking. Jim

POST 7Original post

They can CPO it but they have to remove that aftermarket stuff.

well who would want it without the nitrous! nice steering wheel !

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for everyone's input. I will definitely find out what the buttons are for; maybe for generating an oil slick in case someone is chasing me or the ejection passenger seat! Maybe I can use the non-OEM radio and buttons as a leverage point to get a much lower price. Edmunds Private Party offer is $27K and Dealer is $29K. I will start in the middle and see what happens.

POST 11Original post

Use the fact that it is a buyers market for leverage and start at 25K to 26K. The dealer will have at least 10 percent room in his asking price. Give the dealer a few days to think about your offer.

POST 12Original post

Thats my old car which I traded on my '08! The button (sharp eyes!) is for the built in K-40 radar detector. I believe they cannot CPO the car due to age (6 years). I can tell you that everything works well, and I loved the car! I did a few mods including the Fister exhaust, and short shifter (It will be a touch notchy in this cold until it warms up and then is fabulous). The original radio is in the trunk although the alpine is a better unit and has sirius and i-pod connections as well as blue tooth. It has Focal speakers ($). PM me if you wish.

looks like a K40 radar adjustment ****.

POST 14Original post

Porsche will CPO a car that is 8 years old or less, providing is passes their CPO inspection.

Steven, nice of you to share this info and offer additional info to the prospective buyer.

POST 16Original post

Best sales point yet - the PO is and RL'r and upgraded

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 7353056

It is my pleasure, plus it is easy to do given the car (miss the color).

POST 18Original post

It's great to find the PO! Plenty of info to share...including the trade-in numbers.... there are excellent 996's out there..low miles, with few if any decent mods..there was a pristine C4S in West Palm Beach, FL craigslist about a week ago..

POST 19Original post

I'd offer $25k and settle for $27k. They probably paid $23k so still a nice profit for them.

POST 20Original post

Considering the PO is now identified, I think he and the OP should talk OFFLINE to gather more intel. Dealers watch these boards.........

POST 21Original post

Quotes source post: 7353122

That makes sense and should enable any questions to be answered by the buyer and seller.

POST 22Original post

This is really a hard question to answer. It all depends on how bad you want THAT ONE. I would have never gotten this far with the (IMO) silly asking price. I wouldnt have even gone to look at it. You are going to ask them to that about 30% less than the asking price. Not gunna happen. Either they are trying to score a home run on it, or the used car manager blew his brains out on it when he traded/bought it

POST 23Original post

I spent a year looking for my Pcar at many Indie dealers and I came up with the formula that they usually want to make about $4k on a sale. If you really want it I would offer $26.5K and go from there. They probably paid $24k or so. The low miles are nice. I did my homework in that year of looking and I paid $4.5k under their sticker. I am sure they still made $4k on it but I really wanted the one I got.

That's funny you say 8 years. I just my 2003 C4S from a Porsche dealer in the San Diego area. They stated that they Porsche corporate does not allow cars older than 6 years old to be CPO'd. Granted, it has after market wheels, but, that's about it. Hmmm... BTW, drove the car cross country and many miles since (+/- 3000 miles total). NO issues (so far).

POST 28Original post

Try the key fobs a few times to see if they have problems. Have them fix them if any of them are screwy. Just that is some big bucks if it turns into non functioning to get it straight.

POST 29Original post

This is all interesting. I looked for a good car with a motivated seller for a few months. I believe I got a it for a good price. So yesterday the state of Pennsylvania rewards my efforts with a letter stating that they don't believe I paid what was on the bill of sale (which was totally honest) because it was below the market value. Now I have to send them extra paperwork to "prove" that I paid what I said I paid.

It has been my experience that salesmen know less about their product than the average Rennlister, which is why I would never trust what a salesman tells me. This is directly from the Porsche NA web site under Pre-owned vehicles Section 04 Frequently Asked Questions Are all pre-owned Porsche vehicles suitable for the Porsche Approved Certified Pre-owned Program? Vehicles eligible for inclusion may be current model year and be no older than (8) years old from the original in-service date with less than 100,000 accumulated miles or 160,000 kilometers. In addition the vehicle must pass a stringent 100+ point inspection conducted by our authorized Porsche dealerships. This program excludes Carrera GT. http://www.porsche.com/usa/pre-owned.../approved/faq/

POST 32Original post

I just bought a very similar car 3 weeks ago, 03 C2, Seal Grey/black with options close to this one, 61K miles, paid $28K with CPO. The dealer was asking $32K, took them 2 weeks to come down to my price. The car your are looking at has lower miles but I think you can still start negotiations at $25K, no more. Let me know if you need more details.
