It was a 99 with over 60,000 miles and just over 6,000 miles on a new engine that was replaced under warranty.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

27 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 2Original post

It's a shame we all can't go to fantasy camp.....

POST 5Original post

I was told recently by a very respected nationwide Porsche broker that 996 prices bottomed out just before the new year and are now holding steady or increasing slightly. Supply has definitely tightened. Simple supply and demand: the people who had to sold their cars in a downturning market, supply increased, prices dropped, word got out, raising demand, and now price stabilizes. Econ 101, baby!

POST 7Original post

and its only winter..... wait till the summer hits.

POST 9Original post

I am glad they are going up. You don't want your Porsche to be worth what a Nissan or Hyundai is worth ( no offense to anyone who owns either one ) I'm just saying those are common cars. Usually rare sports cars and exotics go up in value. My car will be more then to me its an asset

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I will sell mine for 1/2 of that one BTW ! (as long as you act before summer hits and prices go really through the roof)

Actually, few sports cars go up in value. Porsches rarely so. The only Porsche road cars currently worth more than their original purchase prices adjusted for inflation would be 356s asn Speedsters, early 911s, and a few other very low production number cars. Even Carrera GTs drop in value, as do GT3s, GT2s, and other very expensive Porsches. And the more exotic? Modern Ferraris and Lamborghinis plummet in value after they are first sold. Now, eventually the few remaining cars in a model series become rare, and therefore potentially valuable. But even that is hit and miss. Take the 968 for example. Less than 5,000 were imported to the US over 4 years. Probably 1/2 to 2/3 of those still exist - say 2 to 3 thousand total. And yet they have dropped in value significantly in the past few years.

Just some observations: -Using eBay as a gage, 996 prices seem to have stabilized , less cars for sale(winter?) -I restored a 356 a few years ago and wish I never sold it - great investment -I sold my 968 last year after 2 years of ownership. Sold it for more than what I bought it for. Nice 968's are still in demand -not dogs

POST 13Original post

I've got $20 on his wife told him to sell the 911. "Honey I'm trying but nobody's buying it."

POST 16Original post

Friends do what they have to when needed. Women perceiving their butts as being important to men makes them think we care how their butts feel riding on a stiff suspension. Fat chance especially if their butts gotten fat.

POST 17Original post

Agreed. I sold my last one to buy the 996. While it depreciated while I owned it for 6 years, it still sold for a strong price.

Speaking of that topic, don't you just hate it when they ask: Wife: "Do these pants make my *** look fat?" Me: "No Honey, they don't!" Me thinking to myself: "Your *** is doing that all by itself!" hee hee I just hope I never make a mistake and say that last part out loud!

POST 20Original post

That car price reminds me of a car that was on eBay when I was looking for mine this past year. It was a 99 with over 60,000 miles and just over 6,000 miles on a new engine that was replaced under warranty. It had some suspension mods and an extra set of wheels. I called up the seller to ask some specific questions and he said that he needed to get at least $35K. Wow! I told him that I was willing to pay a fair market price but he was way off. He said he needed to get that out of the car. It's amazing how out of touch some people are.

On Craigslist today. Seems a tad high to me at $33,500! http://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/1624335842.html 2002 Porsche Carrera, Clean title with clean Car Fax, 50k miles, 6 Speed, A/C, Sunroof, alcantara headliner, black exterior with black leather interior, racing suspension, body kit, 19 inch 3-piece wheels with pirelli tires, custom intake and exhaust, Eclipse head unit, 2500 (500/5) watt JL Audio amplifier, (2) 10 inch JL Audio Subwoofers in a custom box to fit behind the seats, Bose speakers, Smoked side-markers, Rennline Billitt pedals, Short-Throw Shifter, Brushed aluminum accent, 2 sets of floor mats (1 set of stock black ones, 1 brand new red/black cocoa floor mats) like new in and out. Must have money in hand or proof of loan in order to test drive. No Tire Kickers or Dreamers. No Solicitors. Serious Buyers only! http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y27...t=DSC00064.jpg

POST 25Original post

That one is tricky due to all of the mods. The parts cost alone would seem to make up the difference between this car and a stock car - perhaps even more. If you want them the price hike over a stock car might be worth the extra money. Then again, the question of who did the install and the overall quality becomes tricky. And just what exactly is a 'race suspension?'

Oh, ****! If it makes it to my house address, that is gonna cost me a bundle on medical bills and jewelry! Hummmm.... hey ED, old buddy! How much were you asking for that GT2 wing? I'll pay you double.... er, no ... triple that amount!! We got a deal? Make sure you pack a lot of "special paper" around the wing to protect it during shipping.
