value really depends on the true condition and repair/maintenance history.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am test driving this one later today.

He had been asking $29k on Craigslist a few weeks ago.
What is your take on value from what you can see?
There is an odometer "issue" on the Ebay Autocheck but it's pretty clearly a typo as there are two mileage entries the same day... with one being 5,000 higher. Is there any way to get that cleared so it doesn't show up in the future when I go to sell the car?
Where's the best spot for a PPI in Sacramento?
might be a nice cara and a 5000 mile issue on the OD would be a typo as no one would go thru the effort to remove 5k from a car
the owner doesnt seem like an enthusist to me because none of those pics show any love of the car - that said pedals are nice... lots of stereo things... says "kid" owner and the pic of 101mph is really impressive
overall its a nice looking car IMO - but he didnt even wash it for the photos???? Hope he has time to talk to you while texting his BFF
So I can tell you from my personal experience - I did a lot of research on WHAT I wanted in my 996 - mileage range, maintenance history, physical condition, year range, options, color combinations etc - and then I decided what I could spend on the car.
When I finally found it (it took a year and a half) - I bought it. I probably paid a couple thousand more than what others advised me to pay - but I wasn't willing to wait another year to find one with the specs I wanted - and at the end of the day - it fit the budget I had allocated - and am VERY happy. I don't drive around thinking "oh crap I overpaid according to so and so". I drive around thinking I got the car I wanted.
So if this is the car you like, has the specs you want (and please spend the $250 to do a PPI at your local dealer or indy) and it fits your budget - buy it and enjoy it....
read these threads... value really depends on the true condition and repair/maintenance history. Franks automotive on folsom blvd near 52nd is fantastic. $100/hr vs. niello's $160 (recently upped from $140) fwiw, i chose a mkII and have no regrets at all.

This car's ad screams for a thorough PPI!
I paid $27,500 for my 40k Carrera coupe with full leather, PSM, Advanced Technic Package, and Comfort Package.
This was Bruce Anderson's response to my 2002 Carrera Reader's Sale Report in December 2009:
A cabriolet would be $1-2,000 more.
I don't know his formula, but suspect that if he calculates values from mid-summer 2009 through the end of the year, rather than for the full 12 months, that these numbers would be lower.
Those numbers are vastly exaggerated. No way an 02 Carrera is going for $35-47k no matter how nice it is. You can step into a Turbo at those levels. Way optimistic.
Agreed. I bought my '02 C4S a year ago for less than $35K.
I agree with redridge - the left tail pipe looks out of place. Could be something minor... who knows?
The general condition of the car suggests that the owner doesn't care for it too much.
Could just be me but the hood looks like it has more of a gap on the passenger side. As far as the odometer being coughed up as being corrected I'd look at the car fax and see if it had the ECU swapped out or whatever holds that memory. It could mean the car was crashed or got some other major damage at some time then got rebuilt. Don't forget floods do tend to trash electronics some times. Try compairing the owners location to areas that got nailed by floods. Happy nightmares getting yourself to the point of having a nice porsche and sweet dreams.

Good eye. I test drove the car today and the passenger side hood was elevated noticably. I looked underneath and the cover (not sure what it's called) was unscrewed and raised up. Possibly it caused the hood to raise!? Not sure.
I am going to see how the Ebay auction ends and if still below his reserve ($25k) take it in for a PPI.
He's a legit guy, we have some common acquaintances, etc.... However, he has only owned the car 7 months and clearly is not a Porsche guy. Just a car for him to play with.
We shall see....
I appreciate everybody's comments.

The po of my boxster had an issue with mileage. His father passed away and when the title was transferred to the son who sold it to me, they incorrectly added about 2-3,000 miles. I wasn't worried since i knew the story.
Poorly fitting body panels and short ownership? Not a Porsche guy? Walk away. Also, like Ed said, 100mph picture and picture of license plate = failticket
Do NOT - I repeat NOT buy a car on e-bay sight unseen. Use e-bay to locate cars within driving range of your home, and take it to a dealer for a pre inspection check up.
