Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

HI everyone. buying our 3rd 911, and have 2 in mind. perhaps someone has an opinion of maintenance for us. the 2001 turbo has 100,000 km. the 2004 is a tubro cab, about 29,500km.
i think the 25,000 difference is price will be eaten by maintenance on the 2001, and we're better to go with the cab. anyone know anything about these 2 cars that would help the decision? thanks
My only thought would be that the 04 turbo with lower mileage should require less $ for maintenance than the higher miles on the 01. Did you pose this question in the turbo forum? They ought to be able to give you specifics that I can't.GL with your purchase choice.
I think that newer is always better... but the real question is: do you want a coupe or a cab?
Any other notable differences for you? Color or option preferences? The '04 will have an updated interior with a glove compartment, and it will have the MOST-based sound system. If it has sat nav, it will be the newer PCM 2.0 compared to the '01, which I believe will have PCM 1.0.
Do you have maintenance histories for both cars? Any stories for either one?
02+ had several Updates over the 2001... Suspension, Chassis, Wheels, Interior and ETC... If Pongobaz can chip in he knows more about these Updates, he was the one who told me about this
That's a very large difference on the clock. Is $25k in US dollars or some other currency? I'd go for the 2004. If you assume $5-8k per year depreciation and assume a usage of 10k miles per year, you are still ahead in value on the 2004.

I don't believe there were significant differences on the inside of the turbos between 2001 and 2004. Exterior differences are more muted also, as obviously they all have the updated exterior compared to a 99-01 non-turbo 996.
I agree that the question is more of a coupe or cab sort of thing. I would prefer an 02 or higher coupe, personally.
Maybe figure a fresher suspension on the 2004. Fresher turbo's too.
On the earlier model if going for more power is desired then there are upgrades you might try.
i'm pretty sure there are hardly any differences between the 01 and 02, mainly the 02 has a glove box, thats about it, at least thats true for the turbo, not sure about the n/a
as for comparing 04 to 01 it depends how well the cars have been treated and serviced, its not just as simple as getting the one with less miles, they could be track miles and the car could be beaten to hell
