Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I decide to wash the car this morning. I jump in the car and start backing it out of the garage. The passenger seat back was pushed forward, since my son was in the back last night. As I was in reverse I decided to push the seat back so I could check the side mirror, somehow the top of the seat caught the garage door opener, hit the close button and proceeded to knock it off the passenger visor. It took a second and I realized, "oh, crap the door is moving and I'm under it". I couldn't find the opener and it's the oldest opener off the three garages so it doesn't have the safety beam (I know that I should get on with it). I froze for a half second thinking what to do, maybe gun it out of the garage, but I tried to put it into first. Unfortunately, by the time I put it into first, the door hit the car and went back up. Fortunately (and it was hard to tell while in the driver's seat), it hit near the back of the rear window - no damage at all. It's bad enough that I have to go back to work tomorrow (I'm a math teacher), but damaging the car would have really ended the summer on a sour note. Hope everyone is having a great day/weekend!

I would've dove in and taken the bullet... like those CIA guys that protects the prez. Even the older garage doors have torque switches on them.... Glad it worked out for you. Did my last drive this morning with a couple of Galardo's, Its been a good summer.

Last drive? Are you crazy - there's still lots of driving weather left. As for the garage - I did that with my SUV one time... damaged some of the plastic trim around the upper brake light and bent the door... the door came out worse than the car. I'm still annoyed at myself every time I look at the slightly bent garage door.

man, brings bad memories; on a similar situation my garage door once decapitated my BMW X5's rear gate by slicing the spoiler right off ...

Obviously I'm not the first one to do this and not the last. Although my worst garage incident was with my Audi A6 Avant and my mountain bike in the rack. Fortunately I had the upright mount, not the fork (that may have done more damage), it ripped the wheel holders and broke out of the grip. Not too much damage to anything (garage/car/bike), but it sort of mangled the carrier.

What are y'all talking about? Lots of driving weather left? Sure, like YEARS of it. Do some of you have cars that are scared of the cold? Why'd they put heated seats in mine?

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm still good till 40 degrees! Don't have the winter tires and rims yet (although that's why I have an Audi A6 Avant). Although I'm not going to hibernate the car for the winter, because where I am (about 1 hour north of NYC), I'm betting on days in every month - December, January, maybe not Feb., and March that will certainly have days above 40 degrees (I'm still remembering going out for a run in January of '06 and the temps hit 60!).

My GDO has an electric eye that won't allow the door to move if something is breaking the beam. I thought that was a standard feature

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's an older opener and hence doesn't have the eye. My other two openers have the eye.
