Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

it's you're choice, but from my experience, i've learned to skip repair shops, and go with porsche parts install by porsche dealers, because it offers an instant 2 year warranty...

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok everyone I appreciate all the great info on the Gearbox issues. You're all correct it seems that this should be the gripe NOT the RMS, but anyways. Now What? Do I rebuild the 996 G.96.00 Gearbox that is STILL at the shop for $2800 with CA Motorsports OR Do I ge the one from Porsche Re-conditioned for $5180? Thanks In Advance

POST 2Original post

depends on how long you want to keep the car.. for example, when my first engine blew up, i thought, hey a 9,000 mile rebuild couldn't possibly go bad... well a few hundred miles later it did... so on my third engine, i bit the bullet and just got a porsche re-conditioned one for full price.. what this offers is a 2 year warranty.. you have a 99... and i'm assuming no warranty.. the question is, if the company you pay $2,800 to rebuild a gearbox goes bad on you, you're basically f**ked.. and will end up paying the $5,200 to get another rebuild... it's you're choice, but from my experience, i've learned to skip repair shops, and go with porsche parts install by porsche dealers, because it offers an instant 2 year warranty... and with the growing reliability of the older 996s unknown as mileage and years advance... it may just be with the extra $2k for that piece of mind... ...personaly I know I can sleep much better at night knowing my now third engine has a porsche 2 year warranty AND a third party extended warranty ontop of it.. i sleep like a baby.. (and have been known to scream like one when something goes wrong with my 996.. trust me i know what you're going through.. frusterating.. $5200 gearboxes shouldn't just go.. on a 99 car... but porsche won't help you.. just have to pay the piper and move on...)
