Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Reported cause
Dealer simply guessed as to what the problem was after looking at the diagnosis flow chart.
Leading evidence: 'after looking at the diagnosis flow chart' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'after looking at the diagnosis flow chart' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check cable and contacts' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I have cleaned the throttle body and idle control.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I just changed the MAF on my 99 (non e-gas) and it feels as if I am down on power compared to before the swap. I was into the dealer and they recommended replacing as the output was slightly erratic (no CEL). The PN on the new part is the same as the old. The MAF is Bosch from Pelican Parts.
Do you have to do a reset
(neg cable off) or can you just unplug / replace and the ECU automatically learns the new parts parameters?
Last MAF replacement (different 99 Carrera) , I remember the dealer saying something was necessary from an ECU standpoint - this could have been so I would bring it in for the work.........
Thank you
Marlin
The is no learning curve on the MAF signal at WOT on your car. What was erratic about the signal? Do you have a scanner that will show signal of MAF? Check cable connection and clean the contacts on the cable. Make sure throttlebody is clean. If you had an erratic idle, remove and clean the idle control valve.
If, for any reason, your MAF signal was erratic enough to fall out of range, you would have received a CEL. Dealer simply guessed as to what the problem was after looking at the diagnosis flow chart. Many Porsche techs have litle understanding of the cars they service and are simply part replacers.
It is possible that timing has benn pulled on you computer and resetting the computer will correct this and give you more performance.
The dealer claimed the output of the MAF was "erratic" - but not far enough to hit the limits and trigger the CEL. As you have stated, it did seem slightly speculative. They did state to wait until the light goes on to change the MAF. I was replacing the water pump and opportunistically figured it was time for the MAF. I was also attempting to address a stumble mid RPM range. The stumble is gone, but now low power.
I do not have a scanner to further assess. I have cleaned the throttle body and idle control. I will check the cable and contacts.
It does feel and sound like timing is pulled. I will try the reset procedure to see if it helps.
Thank you
