So, is GHL the only manufacturer that makes a muffler set for 3.4 and for 3.6 to "do the job properly" and does that mean all the other manufacturers are cutting costs with "one size fits" all manufacturing?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Am in the process of purchasing Fabspeeds for my 2002 996.
Pelican show one part number for MY 99 to 04 for Dansk, Fabspeed and Evo mufflers.
Vertex shows one part number for MY 99 to 04 Schnell mufflers.
BUT
Pelican shows two part numbers for GHL mufflers being:
PEL-996MNT for MY 99 to 01 (being 3.4 cars), and
PEL-996MNT-02 for MY 02 to 04 (being 3.6 cars).
So, is GHL the only manufacturer that makes a muffler set for 3.4 and for 3.6 to "do the job properly" and does that mean all the other manufacturers are cutting costs with "one size fits" all manufacturing?
And, specifically, as to the Fabspeeds, is something designed for the 3.4's really going to work on the 3.6's?
Is there more than one Fabspeed muffler and I have just missed the listing?
Finally, and this is a long shot question -- does anyone know who the Fabsapeed importer is in Australia? (I have emailed/asked that of Fabspeed USA but they have not answered)
Thanks, for the knowledge you share,
Regards,
Michael Gibney
They are all the same it is the tips that were different. 04 GT3 mufflers fit on a 99 3.4. The 3.4 and 3.6 and even boxster 3.2 are virtually indistinguishable form one another externally other then the engine code.
Michael our exhaust for the 996 Carrera also fits the 997 Carrera as well. We have different style tips for the 3.4L and the 3.6L to comply with the change in the rear valence.
Our importer in Australia is "Fitzgerald Racing"

Thanks very much Paul and Joey,
Joey, it is Fitzgerald that I am booked in with to have the job done -- he is about 2 hours drive from me but is only 5 minutes from my parent's home where I was raised.
I was just not sure about who was the Fabspeed agent over here because it's not easy info to locate -- try google and you eventually get there but it takes time and there is no reference to your overseas agents on your website (that I could see).
I am surprised to hear you say that Fitzgerald is your Aus. agent because he said that I would have to order by tomorrow to have them for next week -- so he must not hold them in stock -- and he must order from you and air post -- must add quite a bit to the cost.
Anyway you have chosen a good agent -- Fitzgerald is well known for being one of the better independent repairers -- several people recomended him and as said I was not aware of his being your agent when I emailed him asking him what he could supply -- funny how the world is full of things that come together.
Now for a question -- I have asked Fitzy a question but he has not gotten back to me because he is taking a DE day:-
Q -- As to your plain tip for the 996 -- the 'pohtos show the pipe as black and the "shroud" as chrome -- can that be right? I know your mufflers are all stainless but what materials are used to make your tips?
Thanks again.
Michael Gibney
Fitzgerald racing provides great P-car service and we recommend for anyone in that area to talk to Peter for all their Porsche needs.
Our 996 tips are T304 stainless steel but have a painted black neck with a stainless steel shroud.
