On the other hand if the serial number matches the '98-'01 date range and you check the can cover to see which Variocam you got, you could be rest assured you most likely have a stroked out 3.4.

They're Italian made speedline rims, made for gemballa (Stamped Speedline for gemballa with an additional Gemballa sticker with number iirc, will check when I get home next!)

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

so I mentioned I'd bought a 996 not too long ago but didn't get round to a proper hello and putting up some pics. Apologies if in the wrong forum.. I actually went out to buy a 96 viper. Long story short, also test drove a cambiocorsa, an M6, a 911 and a cobra rep. I wanted to love the maserati - but you should have to keep trying to convince yourself that a car is pretty. Even if that engine is awesome. The same goes with the M6, it was spectacular, but also pretty common and was missing some sort of character. Accelleration was brutal but it felt like a barge and I kept trying to rationalise buying it. Then I saw the 911 sat in the corner. Took it out for a spin and bought it on the spot. The Z4m I traded in felt little more frantic, but I feel like it was a good deal slower and no where near as composed. Between being bright yellow and sounding like a race car, it gets looks and waves non stop which is annoying as every boy racer wants to have a go at the traffic lights. Loving porsche ownership so far The previous owner was a bit ocd with it and it's flawless for the most part. Think he had the same approach as me with it being a sports car, not a cruiser - ie the spec included 3 spoke wheel, suede headliner, with carbon trim hidden in the leather dash. Then for good measure it has the X51 Carrera performance pack from factory (swirl pistons, new heads, new manifold, extra radiator additional oil pump and plumbing etc). On top of that as the decals hint, it's also had the gemballa treatment, remap/tune full exhaust, coilovers, Gemballa speedline alloys & bodykit. Has an ipod / bt integrated Alpine unit that sounds pretty good, I've got some higher end alpine speakers I might throw in but no rush.. Not done much to her just yet, polished the wheels, about to put in GT3/GT2 seats, possibly a half rollcage and a bigger brake kit with red callipers. Long term, if anything goes engine wise I'll look into a metzer transplant, not sounding like supercharging the standard engine is particularly a good idea.. before: after: In her new home It lacks the all out pace of the M6 which is the only thing I'd really want to address, but at 350bhp and weighing not a great deal over 1200 kilos it is still quick and very nimble! Those 295 reads deffo keep it hanging on in the corners much better than the beem did

POST 3Original post

Pretty car with some nice performance upgrades on top of a X51, sweet. I really like the rear wing. That would look awesome on my C4S.

POST 6Original post

great looking auto....update the wheels and you have a real head turner on your hands!

POST 7Original post

I like your WA plates! Is yours a pre or post facelift 3.4 or 3.6L engine + other differences etc.

POST 8Original post

Id like to know more about those wheels, they are quite awesome.. two or three piece? and can you get a picture of the inner wheel.. like of the stampings? Clean pcar man

Cheers, I love the wing, not OTT but a nice addition! Thanks! That's what sold it to me, I hadn't seen one quite like it and that's big plus points for me Thanks Cheers Struggling with the wheel decision! I did like the idea of going for some nice 997 rims or something but I just can't help but think it won't sit right. Even toyed with having them powdercoated white. Ah will have to give it some thought and photoshopping! Cheers! Only got them a few weeks ago, was chuffed I was able to scoop them up! It's a 3.4 post face lift - although I was advised by someone I got in touch with after buying the car (who knew the car) that it was stroked out to a larger capacity. Took the comments with a pinch of salt although the guy had no reason to make anything up, may just be misinformed is all. Have been trying to chase up a few people to see exactly what's been done just out of interest  Cheers As far as I know they're two piece. They're Italian made speedline rims, made for gemballa (Stamped Speedline for gemballa with an additional Gemballa sticker with number iirc, will check when I get home next!) I believe a few 993's run them or rims very similar. Have been trying to find out info on weight but not having much luck! Another snap:

POST 10Original post

Take a pic of the engine serial number underneath. This may tell you if it was bored out or came as a 3.6 from the factory.

POST 11Original post

Very sharp looking car. Love the color. Once you go yellow you don't want any other... except if its a TT then It has to be RED.... to KC

Thanks Thanks Gotta say, I've only just looked at photos of a red TT but with some carbon trimmings - wow! Yep the paperwork all stacks up to being a 3.4 - the person I spoke to recalls it being bored toa 3.6/3.8 though - that's the bit I've not got any evidence of Safe to assume not until I find something to the contrary I suppose. Not planning to do any major mods for some time yet so I guess it will remain a mystery for now!

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 12751988

found some info on the wheels! Assuming they're talking about the largest size available being 9kg but not sure. The 12" wide 18"s are around 15kg so could be upto a best part of 20kg unsprung weight reduction if so. Will keep digging, not that it matters too much but interesting too.. Apparrantly the powerkit installed delivers and additional 25bhp. I'd be interested into whether this translates to an additional 25bhp on top of the 20bhp added by the x51. Looks like I may have to get her on a dyno soon and sooth my curiousity

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 12762048

That's why you should take a pic of the engine serial number to determine this. If your serial number is inline with 2002 production date on up, you could just have the normal 3.6L. On the other hand if the serial number matches the '98-'01 date range and you check the can cover to see which Variocam you got, you could be rest assured you most likely have a stroked out 3.4. If you really wanted to make sure, you could drop the sump and borescope through the spark plug holes as well. I've learned a long time ago to never trust paperwork 100%.

POST 16Original post

thats a massive freakin garage!! you've got lot of room for several more porsches and basketball court

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source posts: 12764819, 12762734

 just my warehouse unfortunately - I'm planning to build a garage next year that size though and another porsche will definately be on the cards! Sorry when I say 'paperwork' I meant that the serial number, original docs etc are all consistant and consistant with it being an 01 3.4 from the factory; I just don't know how valid the stroked comments are - like you say, borescope will get to the bottom of it for sure, which I'll check in the future..

POST 18Original post

Excellent looking car Saff. Did Gemballa do the mods to the car(through a U.S. authorized dealer) or did a previous owner buy the bits and have them installed?

Thanks I'm in Australia, from what I can gather the work was done by a Gemballa distributor on the east coast back in 2001
