Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suspected cause
I suspect (but don't know for sure) that there's a way to permanently turn off the TC.
Leading evidence: '(but don't know' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is '(but don't know' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Use brakes (unlike psm)' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
The traction control system on the MY 99 does not re-engage when you reach a certain slip angle and use the brakes (unlike PSM).
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Has anyone permanently disabled PSM in a 99 C2, a non-egas car
I located a car to rebuild my race car, but is has PSM, and dont really want this on the track. It also has the mechanical LSD, and I like that.
If I have my computer and ABS controller from my old car can I swap parts to make it work?
Anyone flashed the computer to disable?
I did a search but could not find anything on non-egas.
TIA
'99 C2's don't have PSM, at least to the best of my knowledge. I have one, with the LSD, and non-egas.
PSM came later -- it wasn't available when I ordered my car.

Sorry, I think it's got traction control, not PSM. Don't have the car yet to inspect.
You're right that came later, when the computer started controlling the throttle too.
Still have the same question though, can it be disabled?
There's a switch on the dash to turn off the TC temporarily, but it only lasts until you shut the engine down. I have to remember to do that every time I'm at the track. (since I also have to turn off the a/c, I do them both at the same time)
I suspect (but don't know for sure) that there's a way to permanently turn off the TC.
You can wire in a relay to cycle the traction control switch every time the starter is engaged -if you don't want to simply hit the switch.
You can also swap in your ABS controller, however you'll need the pump as well, I'm guessing it'd be fairly involved to do this, however I've read that the traction control equipped 996s have a more advanced ABS system -which the rest of the 996s did not get until 2002 except for the RoW market GT3s. Anyway, I've not been able to confirm this, but it makes sense considering the need for precise pulsing of the rear brakes individually and brake force modulation for the traction control.
Does the TC reengage when the ABS activates like the later PSM does? I don't want it kicking on when trail braking.
THe systems are different, the TC cars have seperate rear brake circuits, while the non-TC cars just have one to control both rear calipers.
No. The traction control system on the MY 99 does not re-engage when you reach a certain slip angle and use the brakes (unlike PSM). Once you deactivate the system, it stays off. It's one of the reasons, I love the MY 99 as it doesn't get in your way. I can rotate/trail brake my car to my hearts content in autocross without it interfering.
