Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Check brake fluid reservoir' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check brake fluid reservoir' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. you can remove the 2 side covers next to the battery with a single screw - DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN - it is just a rubber thing stuck ni a hole and will break - its not structural, just holds a cover on...check your cabin air filter too (an I am guessing replace it)

Did you check the engine compartment...everything look normal?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It has been raining torrents here. My car sat in it for 1.5 hours and I tried to start it, here is the issue:
The brake pedal is completely locked up.
White smoke is coming out of my tail pipes and it smells. I dont know what coolant smells like but perhaps. Also, when I rev it, it falters and stumbles but continues to run.
Any help??
brakes locked up ? parking brake or all 4 - rolls or doesnt roll?
antifreeze smells sweet, you ccan almost taste it in the air its so sweet.
White smoke is water or steam, could be from any number of places including the mufflers, or rain in the intake...run it and see it it clear up... watch temp and guages
stumble could be a cracked coil and the water has got to the point where it is causing the stumble. ADDING or the air filter box could be full of water... open it up and look if its wet inside
These symptoms also could be many other things BUT if they were not there before the rain, and ther after.... this would be my list...........
PS WHERE's THAT DAMN PICTURE YOU PROMISED
The car rolls because I tried to drive it and only then discovered the white smoke. Just the brake pedal is completely locked up. It gives the tiniest bit and grinds a little.
I let it idle (which it does fine) and it smoked continuously, then I tried to gently rev it and it smoked even more while stumbling pretty bad. Furthermore, it has a distinct smell. Like I said, I' not sure what coolant smells like but it was like burnt plastic. No check engine, oil pressure looked fine.
What am I looking for in the oil filler, dipstick? I checked both and nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
This was after sitting in very heavy rain for 1.5 hours, after a 45 minute drive without issue.
Brake lockup

Pedal down at the bottom, or pedal not moving? I'd check your brake fluid reservoir. Wouldn't be rain related though.

Is your coolant level normal? Car temperature steady or overheating? If both are normal, then it's not likely coolant.
Is the air filter original? Check under there and see if it's wet. When you rev it, it's sucking more air...if you have water somewhere, it's sucking more water. You can check further in the intake pipe up to the throttle body..see if it's dry.
Also...check intake track for any leaks between MAF and throttle body. That is another reason for hiccups (aka uncounted air getting in)...but this is a longshot IMO.
Did you go through any deep puddles? Remember plugs are on the bottom of the engine (or side actually). Water around the plugs/coils may cause hiccups.
Plastic burning smell...only thing I could think of there is something rubbing against a belt? Did you check the engine compartment...everything look normal?
As long as all fluids are normal...temp is normal...nothing rubbing...no severe large water deposits...you could just let it idle...heat up and see if it dries it all away.
Just my thoughts.
Open up the front hood.. Remove the plastic cover by the battery. Peek inside to the right or left and see if there is any water in there? You have drains in there that are easily clogged if not cleaned regularly. The one that if clogged would effect your brake system is the right side. Let us know.
When I got back in the car, there was some water on the floor board. My drains were cleared when I had my 60,000 service approx 14,000 miles ago. Furthermore, I check them at intervals to assure it. However, I think the amount of water the drain spout emitted made that a moot point anyway.
arg....
water on the floors, maybe my drains are plugged....
yea, OK open the battery area up and LOOK inside - do you have a cheap set of torx bits? you can remove the 2 side covers next to the battery with a single screw - DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN - it is just a rubber thing stuck ni a hole and will break - its not structural, just holds a cover on...check your cabin air filter too (an I am guessing replace it)
something up there has probably floated into possition to block the pedal....
did you check the coolant level yet?
Nothing blocking the pedal.
Since my ABS light is not on I am assuming that I in all likelihood don't have to worry about replacing those components? From my searches, it sounds like my brake booster has water in it.
Haven't checked the coolant levels, car isn't with me. Given that it idles completely normally with no sounds, etc. could it be the air/oil separator? I have had an intermittent CEL related to vacuum leaks, could that be related?
