Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I assume the PPI checked for any signs of an impending RMS issue?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys,
After searching for 6 months, i think ive found a pcar that i might be interested in buying. Its a 2000 c2 with Aerokit - Black/Grey 6spd - w/ 66k miles.
Clean PPI. 2-owner car..The car is 500 miles from me, and i havent driven it yet.
Originally i was steering clear of dark colors, but this car looks pretty flashy.
The owner will let it go for 28.5k. Is this a decent deal for a higer mileage 996?
Thanks.
That car looks great I paid less then that for a 2000 996 C2 with 60,xxx on the clock but mine doesn't look that nice nor have the aero kit so I think if it is as solid as it looks and passes a PPI then it is a good deal
Not really an issue these days - hit it with the right polish and then a couple of layers of a decent sealant and you're good to go for months.

I actually looked at buying this car myself but wanted a little newer model. Let me know if I can help in anyway. I am about 10 miles away from this car and owner. PM me if you need anything...
Sounds like a good deal. I was also a touch quick to pull the trigger on mine because of the excitement of being in the presence of a 911. I will also be more patient next time. I don't think I got ripped, but will be more critical next go round and strive for the lowest price possible.
I wasn't a fan of the aero and wanted turbo twists, so mine worked out for me. I bought about 6 months ago and paid $29,000 with not many options. It had 59,000 miles when I bought it.
I've since added carbon shift ****, carbon ignition rosette, carbon hazard surround, clear lights, colored wheel crests, and aluminum gauge rings.

Is that the Ultima spray sealant? I have never been a believer that a spray could be effective, please elaborate on your process.

There's an Ultima polish that I used after the usual wash/clay routine - worked over the whole car using a Porter Cable.
This leaves really nice prepped surface, and allows you to take out all of the swirls etc.
The Ultima sealant sprays onto a foam applicator, and you then wipe over the surface of the paint applying a really thin coat.
Takes 10 mins to coat the whole car!
QT Video of me applying a 2nd coat to my 986 here:
http://www.dodkin.com/iMovies/Ultima-PGP.mov
You then leave it to cure - after which it goes amazingly slick to the touch, and leaves a deep hard shine.
You can re-coat after 12-24 hrs for extra protection.
Pictures give you a good idea of the visual effect - but you can't feel the slickness - that's amazing, like nothing else I've tried.
Here's the '99 986 after 2 coats:
Same idea, i.e. a sealant last step product, but different chemical technology and method of application.
Ultima's unique selling points are the extremely slick, crud repellant finish, and extreme ease of application.
Product only came out last year, and the 986 for example was given two coats back in July.
So far it's still looking excellent with the regular wash cycle - will probably re-apply in spring. So 6 months is definitely do-able.
996 only had one coat back in July, but has also lasted well - will be doing a re-polish and application shortly.
Passat had a single cost as well - again, back in July.
Lives outside 24x7, but still comes up nicely after a wash - slickness is gone, but protection still appears to be in place.
Err no, I just busted out my HD camcorder and iMovie.
Best way to show how simple it really was.
That's what I love about the Mac, you can knock out a decent looking video in half an hour with the free software
The local Porsche club here in SD were lucky enough to be the first to be shown the Ultima products last year in a tech session - advantage of being local!
Vin,
That car looks awesome. I love the wheels. I think if it checks out mechanically you should buy it (if you haven't already). it really looks great. Check out the posts above from all the Charlotte rennlisters if you want someone to check it out for you.
Best wishes,

Black cars owned in past:
2007 Saturn Aura
2004 Chevy Tahoe Z71
1996 Lincoln Mark VIII
1992 Cadillac STS
Nothing like a very clean black car!
P.S. I think the car and the price seem very reasonable and the car looks to be in very good condition. As mentioned, 8k miles per year is pretty low mileage.
It it's any help, I just payed $29,900 for a 2000 C2 (no wing) wtih 61k miles, here in So. California.
I don't regret it at all.
The car you're considering sounds like a real deal. Black looks awesome if youi keep it **really** shined.
I'd say go for it.
For what it's worth I'd check out the aero kit to see if it's Factory parts, factory installed, etc.
I say this because the rear wing was the wing for cabs and targa's and is not the correct OEM Aero I "taco" wing. This could be a warining sign of the following:
1) rear end damage that was repaired with a different wing
2) non aero car with aero bits added (possibly aftermarket)
Don't let this scare you away from the car, just make sure your research is complete prior to making an offer.
The factory option sticker will show option XAA for a factory installed aero kit.
Andy
Yes, just buy yourself a firewire cable if you don't have one already (probably need the type with the mini firewire on the camcorder end, and full firewire on the Mac end)
The rest is easy - iMovie will recognize the camcorder as an import device and ask you if you want to import video.
The rest is drag and drop movie editing - very easy to get started, and lots of fun.
Not yet, another rennlister took a look at it and said that in its condition it was worth about 25-26k. I made him an offer, and still waiting back from him.
Paint and interior were not in the condition i was hoping. There were several dings, scratches ect. For 28.5k i was expecting something in better shape.
It's called the Carerra wing and also comes with side skirts and front clip. Sunset's and Pelican's site does not say it is for a cab or targa. I'm considering the same kit.
