Hi guys - my car is an '03 C4S and came with the bose system. I've been thinking about upgrading it and needed some help. Tried to do a search for this topic, but couldn't find answers on one specific thing... When i pull down my rear seats, I see these two speakers back there - are these the subwoofers? These are in addition to the two regular speakers on the sides in the rear. They are the weirdest looking subwoofers i've seen. And for those who've upgraded the system, is it worth replacing these subs? A friend has recommended going with the following set up: - Alpine 9886 H/U - JL Audio 4-channel amp - Replace speakers in the door w/ JL Audio 5.25" speakers - Replace tweeters only in the dash w/ JL Audio - Leave the back "subwoofers" in place but power then with the amp Anyone have experience with a similar setup? What have others w/ the bose 8 speaker (6+2subs) system done?

Those aren't really the speakers, but rather tuned (accoustic) ports. If you play audio thru the system, you will feel air moving in/out....or if you cover them, you will notice a difference in bass response. It is not a classical subwoofer design, rather a tuned audio waveguide port driven by smaller transducers.
