Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

There is a little more vibration (very little) with the RSS mounts but with the trany mount there is a real increase in vibes (again still not too harsh) While I'm really happy with my updates and the additional performance they afford, I track my car and the additional harshness is okay with me.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My motor mounts are starting to show all of the signs of reaching the end of their useful life. I've researched/read everything I can find on the subject here and elsewhere, but I just can't decide. Stock OEM, RS,WEVO...? I have a 2000 C2 Cab, 77k, daily driver, very little track use, but very spirited driving when conditions permit. I actually enjoy a bit more "proper noise"(Fister D's, CAI on my car etc..., but I've heard of extra vibration noise when going from stock to one of the semi solid mounts. If anyone could expand on their experience, Cab. owners especially, I would greatly appreciate your input before I pull the trigger! Thanks in advance!

POST 2Original post

I have the RSS mounts in my car and there was minimal added vibes once I gotthem installed. Highly recommend this up grade.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the input Matt. I've heard it makes a world of difference, and I think I'm leaning in the semi solid direction, but what are the RSS mounts? I've only seen RS mounts on Suncoast and others.

POST 4Original post

Here is the web site: http://rss.rpmware.com/rss/rss_perfo.../i-533242.aspx

POST 6Original post

another + for RSS. You'll notice increased vibration when you first install, but after a few hours break-in they smooth out a fair bit.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I've researched the RSS mounts and it looks like many are happy with the results, and the increased NVH "described" sounds like a by product I might embrace. My 996 puts a smile on my face every day, but ever since I got it I've been trying to lesson the isolation between car and driver that the factory felt necessary with the introduction of the 996. Now you all have me thinking about transmission mounts as well ! Damn this slippery slope!

POST 9Original post

We offer both Engine and Transmission mount upgrades that stiffen up the drivetrain connection points, leading to much improved handling and shifting! Check out our threads on these solutions in the 996 forum to see some customer feedback and reviews. ENGINE MOUNT UPGRADE TRANSMISSION MOUNT INSERT .

POST 10Original post

I'm delighted with my WEVO semi-solid mounts. The install was easy, passenger-seat rattle is gone. Wheel hop when the rear tires are spinning is almost completely gone, whereas wheel hop with the stock mounts was awful.

POST 13Original post

+1 on the RSS mounts. I upgraded mine last summer and I'd definitely recommend them. There is slightly but noticeably more engine noise in the cabin but I personally consider that a good thing. I can feel the engine a little better and am now a little more aware of the vibration at ~3K. But shifts are a little sharper and it feels a little less sloppy in corners. A little less civilized and a little more like I'd expect a 911 to feel. But a big part of that was likely just comparing against old, worn mounts.

POST 14Original post

I have Porsche 993 RS motor mounts on my 2005 GT3 for about 8 years now, and am very happy with them. There are NO noises, vibrations or increased harshness. The benefits are more stable rear end during cornering but most notably shifting is a LOT smoother. Of course I cannot say that these attributes would be detectable, at least to the same extent, in a cabriolet.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all of the input gents. RSS mounts are on their way, and I'll certainly post my personal experience with the switch over for any others considering this mod. I'm now wondering if I should fortify the transmission mount while I'm in there. I've just noticed that the overall feel of my car has gotten a bit..."sloppy" in the past year. Approaching 78k soon, I guess I'm going to have to start thinking about some suspension overhauling as well.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

BTW Matt, what are your thoughts/experience with the combination of RSS mounts, and the Function First tranny mount? What order did you install them, and what did you notice after each?

POST 17Original post

I did the RSS mount first. The trany mount about a year later. I recommend doing the engine mount first. There is a little more vibration (very little) with the RSS mounts but with the trany mount there is a real increase in vibes (again still not too harsh) While I'm really happy with my updates and the additional performance they afford, I track my car and the additional harshness is okay with me.

POST 18Original post

I just got my RSS engine that are going in along with a Function-F1rst semi solid transmission insert. First thing I have to say is these things are almost too nice to actually install.

POST 19Original post

I just did the RSS Engine mounts and have the tranny insert on the way!

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I agree MiamiC70! The RSS mounts not only look well made, but are beautiful as well! The factory RS mounts look downright agricultural in comparison. I'd love to hear your thoughts with the combination of motor and transmission mounts. Trj, I'd especially appreciate your experience, since you've done the motor mounts first. It sounds like the transmission insert creates a lot more vibration than the RSS motor mounts do once you combine them.

POST 21Original post

The amount of vibration is relative with the FF trany mount. It is more harsh than stock but it does add a lot better shifting feel.

POST 22Original post

Don't understand this issue of apparently better shifting. The 996 has heavy cables as opposed to solid linkage for shifting. So given that the cables will move with the box while still maintaining solid connection to the gear lever assy, how does the new box mount effect this??

POST 23Original post

The engine and Trans move when you shift and the stiffer mounts limit that movement. Make the shifts more positive.

POST 24Original post

Another happy RSS mount owner. It's too bad these have to be hidden in the engine compartment!

POST 26Original post

I know this is an old post, but I recently bought the FunctionFirst yellow 70A insert and I love it. Seems like it's a perfect balance just a bit below the 80. Just a bit of rumble in the cabin, a touch of vibration through the console armrest. Shifts feel great.

Ive had the wevo mounts for over a year , very happy with them
