I used a brush, bought a caliper paint set at PEP boys,,,I think it was 14,95....put some plastic shopping bags around the rotors and made sure the brakepads were covered too....used the caliper paint removel spray...and a steel brush with soft bristlles...it took me a long time to get all of the black paint off...but I was afraid it wouldn't look good enough without putting in the effort!

decals come right off....I just cleaned my rims (daily routine) and cleaned the calipers..and everything looks still as new....I would do as I did and clean them with the caliper cleaner and use a copper brush..taking off the paint....because if there is no paint under the new paint..it should stick better!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

couldn't stop myself any longer...red calipers are the way to go...to just add a little more sportiness (is this a word?) to the P...... I didn't want to spend hundreds..so bought decals on ebay (see if they will keep up..otherwise I have to buy stencils) and bought red caliper paintset at pepboys. total cost of transformation: $25 and about 8 hours of cleaning and perfecting. But I love the result and even from closeup they look like the real ones (for now...we have to see how the paint and decals hold up).

POST 2Original post

Nic - They look great. Did you remove the calipers completely from the car or just take them off the disk and then suspend them in the wheel well and then repaint them? Got any close-up pics? BTW, nice wheels!

POST 3Original post

It will be interesting to see how long the calipers will hold up. I have seen a few sets of calipers painted with Caliper paint that did not hold up or did not turn out right. I have actually found a company that is making me High temp decals that I can bake in the oven under the clear coat. This means vinyl decals and stenciling would not be needed. If your calipers start to flake shoot me a PM.

POST 4Original post

Nic - car looks great, take some close ups! I hope you took it for a drive yesterday with the top down, what a day!

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I will let you guys know how they hold up....I always drive with the top down..much to the dislike of my wife...she is always cold.... I only took the wheels of and put a plastic shopping bag around the brakes....I always wing it, when I do something...when it goes wrong I have to bite the bullit and buy new! I will take some very closups this week. And if they flake I will contact you Sandoval..since this was only a test to see if the difference between black and red is worth spending the money...AND IT IS!! I LOVE THE RED CALIPER LOOK!

POST 6Original post

I did the same mod and finished them off with high temp clear coat? When the car is in use I remove my wheels for waxing and clean my calipers at the same time. I usually perform this task at least once a month. so far so good.

POST 7Original post

Alex - WOW!! You must have the cleanest wheels & calipers in North America! Next you're going to tell us that you use a tooth brush to clean out the grooves on the tire treads?!?!?!?

POST 8Original post

I did the same to my calipers a few months ago. They still look great! Cost me about $20 for the high temp paint and stickers. The manufacturer or the stickers stated they are also high temp. I just masked off everything except the calipers to paint them. Did not want to have to remove them, then hastle with the grake fluid, etc. About 6 hours work and the pride of doing it myself! So far - so good.

POST 9Original post

Any brand recommendations for the high temp paint and clear coat? What about the decals? BTW, all pics look great! JM

POST 11Original post

Fro - Where did you get the PORSCHE emblem (high temp stickers)? Are they stickers or decals ?

POST 12Original post

Search on Ebay - there are a couple of companies that specialize in these high-temp stickers. They are holding up great! Cost about $7. Good Luck.

POST 13Original post

I am interested in this mod too! which products do I buy & where do I buy them?

POST 14Original post

Get the hi-temp brake caliper spray paint at any Auto Zone store. Porsche stickers on Ebay. Thanks! Gregg

POST 15Original post

I used a brush-on kit by a company called G2 and decals from Ebay. Turned out quite impressive!

POST 16Original post

looks great! did you take the caliper off to paint?

POST 17Original post

They look great on your cab! Such a difference. FWIW, the decals should be 3" in length (1/4" height), not 3.5" like these ones. This is if your ****

POST 18Original post

how do you mask off the brake lines & that little nozzle on the caliper so well, not to mention the rotors, etc... arent you guys using spray paint??

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I used a brush, bought a caliper paint set at PEP boys,,,I think it was 14,95....put some plastic shopping bags around the rotors and made sure the brakepads were covered too....used the caliper paint removel spray...and a steel brush with soft bristlles...it took me a long time to get all of the black paint off...but I was afraid it wouldn't look good enough without putting in the effort! I painted the calipers about 3 or 4 times within a 1 hour period...you have to layer the paint for the best result.....and don't make the mistake of touching the drying paint with the brush trying to smoothen the paint..because it won't work..just wait a little and paint the area again...and again....it looks good also from very closup... Bought the caliper decals on ebay...8 bucks plus shipping...and they hold up well...I have to say my car never gets wet...I dry wash always!! So i don't know how the paint and decals will holdup in those situations. I will keep you guys posted about how everything holds up....have driven about 500 miles since the mod..and they still look great..no flaking and decals looking good!

POST 20Original post

Why did you remove the black caliper paint? I could be wrong but you should be able to clean the calipers thoroughly and paint over the existing paint. If anyone disagrees with this reasoning please let me know ASAP. I plan on painting my calipers next week, after my decals arrive. Im going to paint mine PURPLE! Just kidding! RED it is!

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

When you spray on the caliper cleaner...and brush with a copper brush the paint and orig. decals come right off....I just cleaned my rims (daily routine) and cleaned the calipers..and everything looks still as new....I would do as I did and clean them with the caliper cleaner and use a copper brush..taking off the paint....because if there is no paint under the new paint..it should stick better! and can't flake as much...

POST 22Original post

I wonder how heat will affect the longevity of the paint? I am looking forward to trying it. I will wait a few more weeks to read about your results. Thanks for posting this test.

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

you know I tested the "hotness" of the calipers and even after driving 50 miles with speeds up to 125mhp you can still touch the calipers!! And I drive a tip, which means more braking with the brakes instead of with the engine (shifting down..you know what I mean)... I think that the rotors and the brakepads the hottest part of the setup are...so paint and decals should be holding up fine. And if not...it will give me something to do in a couple of months or so...you save about 400 bucks doing it this way!! So you can do it about 20 times before you break even.

POST 24Original post

Anyone tried the yellow paint? I got a BLK on Blk and I was thinking yellow calipers might be sharp? Any thoughts?

POST 25Original post

I think yellow would look sharp as well. But red is classic...

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I don't know about yellow...I think the yellow ceramic calipers are bigger with bigger rotors....I friend of mine has yellow and it doesn't look that good...maybe it also depend on your rims.....try it out and show us the result...you can always paint them red afterwards
