Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

A lot of guys have given their 99-01 cars a "facelift" to the 02+ front bumper and headlights and have installed Litronics.

Suggestion
The aftermarket kits may seem brighter than the OEM Litronics but that's only because they use the stock halogen headlamp assembly.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

A local seller has told me he can install aftermarket HID's in my 2004 C2 for $350, however after doing my homework, it seems that the 2002+ 996's may not be upgradeable due to wiring differences between the pre 2002 and the post 2002? I read that pre 2002 can use these aftermarket kits, but post 2002 cant???
This local seller specializes in NSX installations, and is used pretty often by the guys on nsx prime forums... I want HID's but I dont know if I should trust him, what should I do? What is the worst that can happen? opinions please!
I have yet to see an aftermarket "HID" kit that is worth $100 let alone $300! A lot of these so-called HID kits are nothing more than regular bulbs filled with
a little bit
of Xenon gas. They are not true Xenon bulbs. They are not as bright in terms of light output and the quality control is just not there.
The aftermarket kits may seem brighter than the OEM Litronics but that's only because they use the stock halogen headlamp assembly. The halogen assembly scatters the light -- you don't want that with Xenon. With Xenon, you want the headlamp assembly to focus the light on the road and have that sharp cutoff so as not to blind oncoming vehicles. The OEM Litronics headlamp assemblies have a projector-style lens to focus the Xenon light on the road.
I suggest you contact Eli@Pelican Parts. He can hook you up with the OEM Litronic headlight assemblies and instructions on how to hook them up. There is no "Litronic retrofit kit" for 02+ cars like we do for the 99-01 cars but it can be done. A lot of guys have given their 99-01 cars a "facelift" to the 02+ front bumper and headlights and have installed Litronics. You won't get the "auto-leveling" feature -- that only comes from the factory -- but you can get Litronics.
Try doing a search for "face lift" and related keywords and you should see several threads on the subject.
I agree , anything good is not that cheap, look around on ebay, theY have the OEM Xenons on there all the time, it will cost you more then a few hundred, but if you wanted inexpensive you would'nt own a Porsche
You can buy Hella/Phillips HIDs that are true HIDs. They are true German HID. I put them in all the time. They are not 300.00. The cheaper kits are also true HIDs at least the ones i carry. The quality of the build is not as good as Phillips. The kits are bulb specific. The kits come with 2 true gas charged Hid bulbs, balist and full wireing with relays. installed corectlly they are wonderfull. I have them in my 911 and hummer. Projector houseings do give them a more concentrated beam. There are also alot of good after market companies that make good coversion kits with the projector lenses but they go for about 1000-1200 and are DOT approved. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR
Unless they replace the optics/reflectors, they are not conversions, and they are not legal. Stick to factory stuff.

the reflectors do make a difference but there are very good aftermarket, DOT approved systems, not for porsche but other cars and is very high end quality. ck out

Thanks for that link. As I mentioned before, you really need to have a headlight assembly specifically designed for Xenon to be legal. The link you sent is great -- if you own a Honda, Chevy truck or Crown Vic among others. Unfortunately, they don't make a Xenon assembly for 02+ Porsche 996s. You really need to get an OEM Litronic headlight assembly and figure out how to hook up the harness. It has been done. A lot of guys have converted their 99-01 996s to the 02+ facelift and installed Litronics. It will cost more than $350.
