Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Like many of you , i added the aluminum rings to my dials to brighten up the appearance of the dash. Well, while in the process, i somehow managed to smudge some super glue onto the clear plastic that covers the speedometer. Any ideas as to the bes way to remove it without totally scratching up the clear plastic? Thanks in advance, Clumsy in Maryland

POST 2Original post

Acetone will remove superglue, but depending on the plastic that the gauge face is made of may cloud the face as well. I'm not sure I'd risk it, but I don't think you have many other options.

POST 3Original post

Ouch..I would stay away from acetone..somewhere I read that they actually make a product for super glue removal

POST 4Original post

Acetone(nail polish remover) will take it off, then rub it out with armourall, same thing happened to me. Silicone is the way to go for those rings, some guys use 2 sided tape with success.

POST 5Original post

Don't feel bad--same thing happened to me. I first used lighter fluid and then fine metal polish and a lot of elbow grease to rub the super glue off.

POST 7Original post

Someone vandalised my car by putting a glob of super glue on the rear quarter panel. I took most of it off and then used an orange oil based cleaner (diluted with water) to slowly work the rest off. Not sure this will work with you, as you are working internal to the car...and my glue still hadn't fully set. Can you please post a picture of what the rings look like on? Once you solve your issue of course...

POST 8Original post

That is the very reason I used clear silcone to attach mine. THat way I can remove them should I ever choose with not permanent damage whatsoever.

POST 9Original post

Ditto that LVDell, hi temp silicone is the way to go. Unless you rip on it, it will never come off...
