I do remember that when I first put the bars stiff without changing the dampening two things occured the car pogo'd around because of two things, 1 the stiffer bars = more overall stiffness like adding stiffer springs without increase compression and rebound settings.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So just to give a recap of settings that I have liked in the past to give you an idea of how I like it: pss9's: 4f/3r tire pressure: 32/40 gt3 bars: f-full soft/ r- 1 from soft?- maybe 2 must look when I get down to the garage This seems to give great balance and turn in. However, I did have the bars set must stiffer, and by setting the front stiffer it gave a much better steering feel - ala more boxter feel v. 996 light feel The ride is not the softest needless to say. My thought now is to reduce the rear shock stiffness to 4 and increase the front bar 1 stiffer to offset the change My thought is that the turn in should be better, and overall steering feel better, while giving a better ride and resulting in about the same balance. FWIW I tried running 4f/5r with 36f/40r with the same sway settings and it made the rear roll wayyyy too much. That is what made me come up with lower shock stiffness rear and increase rollbar front to give same balance and better ride quality. Ideas???

POST 2Original post

i don't think stiffening up the roll bar will increase road harshness but firming up the shock will. if you are stiffening up the front and softening the rear i think you will increase the tendency to understeer. with a softer front end the nose will be able to get more mechanical grip/dig into the corners. with the 996 rear weight bias i think the front shock settings should be softer than the rear. maybe soften the front shock with rollbar 1 from full soft, stiffen the rear shock and rollbar 1 from full hard. most importantly, IMHO, try these changes one at a time. adjust the shocks, test, then adjust rollbar (or vice versa) but not all at once.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

yeah I have and have had them many different way already. I am working only on the shock end and then roll bars to get a more compliant ride and the same handling. I set the car back to 4/3 today from being set at 4/5 and it was pretty harsh, even though it handled much better removing the rear slop. I then just set it at 4/4 and that seems to be even ride wise and about where I think I want it. To combat the lack of rear shock stiffness I will increase the front swaybar stiffness 1 from soft- it's full soft now and give that a whirl. I haven't hit any corners but I would bet the car still rolls too much in the rear creating overstear v. neutral. The only question will be whether the change in the roll bar amounts to too much correction creating slight understeer. we'll see after today. But having the rear at 5 was just a pig. It wasn't enough rebound for me as I drive the car very hard normally and made the back end dance mid corner over bumps from being underdamped on the rebound end. Also I really liked the stiffening effect on the steering

POST 4Original post

Caveat: Boxster guy here. Stiffening/softening shocks will affect transitions (and ride) more. The swaybars will affect the body roll and understeer/oversteer more in steady state. FWIW, I've had both TRG and GT3 bars in all sorts of settings/alignments. What I found is that stiffening up the bars reduces body roll so much that the contact patch stays in good alignment with the ground and the change in understeer/oversteer is not nearly as much as I expected. I run mine at full stiff. The limit, though, really is that too stiff, and the suspension is no longer independent and will have a tendency to skip around/push on slow bumpy surfaces. Kinda depends on what roads/speeds you want to optimize the performance. The other advantage to running stiffer swaybars is reduced need for camber (better tire wear, braking, accelerating traction). Good luck...

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am familiar with all the settings as I ran the gt3 bars full before and all the way around. My goal is to mimic the same handling with a better ride which would mean less shock and more bar. I do remember that when I first put the bars stiff without changing the dampening two things occured the car pogo'd around because of two things, 1 the stiffer bars = more overall stiffness like adding stiffer springs without increase compression and rebound settings. 2. More problematic is that the bars being that stiff will transfer the energy from the one corner to the other. The end result, unless you're on a nice smooth track, the car will literally jump around and will be rediculously slower. As most know, bars are meant for adjusting the bias mainly and stiffer isn't better as you want a maximium slip angle which will ensure you're faster through the corner. I would agree with you somewhat with the stiffer bar reducing the need for camber. I run -1.1f -1.8r instead of how the gt3 guys run like 2-2.5 but then again the car is my daily driver, I am a student, and tires are expensive!

POST 6Original post

SPR- just re-aligned and made some other changes. New spec (L then R) Front- Cas=7.76, 7.52 Cam=-1.21, -1.10 toe =0.12 total Rear Cam=-1.55,-1.57 toe=0.18 total TA=-0.01 Ride height is at euro sport suspension height apx. (not listed on my sheet i have a call in for it) PSS-9's are now stock Euro Springs Frnt = 4 Rear =4

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

intersting. I am running about the same but more camber in rear litle less in front (.1) but I run 0 toe front for better turn in. I also have the eur. pss9's. I am currenlty running 4/4 now and it seems to give the most compliant ride, but I think I need to go 1 stiffer front. I haven't had the opportunity to take it out to the canyons to flog it and get a good feel. I plan on doing that maybe sat. with tools so I can change the bars and shocks during. thanks-

POST 8Original post

are your toe settings degrees or inches? i assume -ve toe means toe in... right?

POST 9Original post

Toe is listed in Inches so it is Frnt Left 0.06" Right 0.06" total 0.12" TA = Thrust Angle (rear only) of -0.01 degrees This setup seems to give pretty good front end bite with out dropping it to the weeks (ride height currently is +1.5" apx from before. Be careful about getting too low with the PSS-9's we have the same bumpstop problems as the Turbo kits. Also the damper shaft is only about 1/2" shorter than the stock damper shaft - reducing ride height quickly eats up the shaft travel and soon you are riding on the internal bump stops (which are progressive then solid) - this can cause the car to "Hop" on rough surfaces (such as the berms on the track). I am running the stock sway's currently but will switch to the GT-3 bars when i get around to installing them this winter - it's a street car right now so no hurry
