Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Another lazy question.. how do I secure the hardtop on a 996 cab? I never actually put it on, but it needs to move from it's current location.. and am trying to get rid of it by putting it on my p-car temporarily... anyone in the northwest interested in a white hardtop? :>

POST 2Original post

The directions are in the manual. As far as selling is concerned, they aren't worth too much, so why not just keep it. I got mine on ebay for $100. It will protect the canvas in the winter.

POST 3Original post

Have to concur here. The directions are in the manual (hence the RTFM icon). Great protection for the canvas at certain times of the year so as Neil said......something worth keeping.

POST 4Original post

Keep it - every cab had one so the sale value is not high and if you ever sell the car the new owner will want it (or the price of a new one) from you.

POST 5Original post

Keep it, as it is actually useful. I put mine on the car when we are going on a long trip during the summer. It makes the car quite a bit quieter, and cooler, and my gas mileage went up to 26 mpg at 80 with it on. Death Valley/Las Vegas Labor Day trip.

POST 6Original post

if the 996 conv. doesn't come with hard top as the time of purchase from porsche. can i buy a used one and just put it on? or i need to install some hatch on the car?

POST 7Original post

Depends on the year of the car. For 2002 and earlier cars, any top will plug right in. In 2003 and later cars, if the car was not ordered with a hardtop, the rear latching mechanisms on the roll bar plate were not installed. The two internal latches must be purchased from the parts counter installed prior to installing the top.
