I hope nobody argues with my theory because it'll just set off all sorts of internal struggles for me....
Use porsche adapter, you will need one of several options

Bottom line, if you use the Porsche adapter, you will need one of several options to complete the airbag deactivation:
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all,
What a great forum! I will be purchasing a 996 in the near future. It will by no means be used as a family car but sometimes I will have to pick up my 5 month old from daycare when my wife has to work late and I don't.
I have searched theforums and found some great info on the subject, but I still have one question. Is there an infant car seat that will fit (rear facing) in the back seat of the 996? I know the porsche seat will fit in the front with the airbag off. I also know that there are some that will fit in the back seat facing forward. I just want to know if any will fit in the back facing rearward?
Thanks,
Mike
No back seat, bu there is an adapter clip that bolts to the bottom front of the passenger seat rails. Once it is properly installed it disables the passenger airbags. Keep and eye on eBay or call Sunset / Suncoast Porsche for more information.

Can't answer your question, but I'm looking for new seats and went to Babies R Us and simply tried out several seats to see how they would fit (in my case, I need a bigger seat for my 3 y/o, and the newborn, due any day, will probably ride in the front seat with airbag deactivated). The bases on seats vary greatly, and they key is to find one with a narrower base that will fit well in the back.
What I found was that the smallest, and usually cheapest, seat you can buy is your best bet. I bought one at Target and then trimmed away some of the cosmetic part of the plastic base to make it fit the seat as good as possible.
This was a real conflict for me because, when it comes to my kids, I always buy the safest things I can, regardless of cost. But in this situation, the best seats are bigger and just won't fit. So I figured that for the rare occasions that I would use my 996 as a kid hauler, the overall safety of the car made up for the cheap *** seat.
I hope nobody argues with my theory because it'll just set off all sorts of internal struggles for me....
I agree. What's the deal with child car seats? Nowadays, they're like SUVs. 4-feet wide, cup holders, toys, daiper/magazine racks, who knows! It's ridiculous! Whatever happened to something safe for kids to sit in? It's a seat, not a playland!
What are you, some kind of old fashioned spoilsport??? Kids NEED DVD players with Playstation, gameboys, magazines with racks, food and drink holders, CD players, and toy bins to ride in cars!!
ROFL... Maybe you can find one that is so big, it fits across the entire back seat so you can secure it with BOTH seat belts. Hey, I noticed you have the RG5s, too! A bit more hp, though. My daughter likes the Porsche better than mom's car since I play better music
She usually dances until she wears herself out and falls asleep...
Be careful here. The Porsche car seat adapter will NOT turn off th pax air bag by itself. Once installed, it then depends upon a male, seat-belt buckle type insert to make the electrical connection signalling a child seat is in the front pax seat. (This does not apply to current models, which have a key-switch to turn off the bag).
Bottom line, if you use the Porsche adapter, you will need one of several options to complete the airbag deactivation:
1. Porsche child seat with attached insert, or
2. Home-made insert fashioned from an old 944 male seat belt half, or
3. sufficient mechanical skill to change the deactivation bar from being insert activated to switch activated. (I'm working on that now).
I am considering to make my own buckle. The pictures uploaded in the forum really helps to get the correct shape of the buckle. The only thing I am lacking is the width of the buckle, then I could scale the picture to a correct size and fabricate one myself. Does anybody know, or could help me in measuring the width of the buckle (the part that goes into the female part which is in the car.)
Regards,
Niclas
If the picture attaches correctly, you will see a tracing of my OEM buckle.
The narrowest (forward) part is 13/16 inch.
The shoulder is exactly 1 inch.
The metal thickness is 1/8 inch.
