I just used some electrical tape to keep it from getting loose.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Since my car is a daily driver, I did not to want to 'climb' in and out of the seat each time I get in and out of the car, which led me to the Sparco Roadster. Installed I can easily get in and out when my hands are full, which is nice. I wanted to mount them as low as possible since my main objective is to get maximum headroom especially with a helmet on. So I bottom mounted them to the sliders, and sliders to 996 base mounts obviously. I used one inch spacers in front to raise the front of the seat creating more rake in the seat position. The rear seat mounting points are basically right on the slider. Only about 1-2 inches off the floor of the car. Now with the cushions removed it creates a full 40 inches of space from the seat bottom to the headliner.(not the sunroof part but the roof) I can't remember exactly what the stock measurement was but it's over 2 inches of headroom gained. If anyone can take this measurement with the stock seats I would appreciate it. This also creates a little more leg room underneath the steering wheel. I weighed both stock seats individually and they were 58 and 60lbs, driver being slightly more. The Sparcos + mounting equip was 23lbs each. This netted a whopping 72lb savings. The hp/wt ratio of the 3.4L is 9.7 so with the seats alone it drops to 9.46. If you include the spare, rear seats and the lightweight battery I just purchased, I should have 150lbs removed for a ratio around 9.2. Add some muffler bypass pipes and it's a significant weight loss. The best part is that, like GT4 says, it helps braking, handling, acceleration, tire life. The driving experince has improved as well. My arms are now relaxed when cornering hard instead of holding on. Once I get the harness bar installed and harnesses, it should be even better. Here is a weak picture of the new seats. Thanks for your help with the install, you know who you are.... MB

POST 2Original post

Nice it looks great. Not overly hard to get in and it looks very sporty.

POST 4Original post

Looks great and sounds very interesting! How did you handle the seatbelt attachments that normally go to the seat, ie the insides receiver with the electrical connections ?

POST 5Original post

MB, Exactly my problem as well (hieght). How tall are you? do you have room now for the helmet?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey guys, I am glad you like them. C4bliss, I am just under 6' 3". I don't think the roadster would be the right choice for people any taller than that because the harness holes will be too low. But now I do have room for the helmet. It's much better than stock. Before when I would go for a track day I would have to lean the seat way back and then haunch over a little. Kinda like the gangsta lean. LOL. The seatbelt works like this, you remove the seatbelt receiver and electrical connection from the stock seat and then it bolt with factory hardware right to the 996 base mounts that bolts to the floor with the factory seat bolts. It's better to reuse the factory bolts IMHO because the tensile strength of the bolts has to be up to strict standards. You then plug back in the seatbelt electrical sensor connection to the same place it was before. I just used some electrical tape to keep it from getting loose.

POST 7Original post

MB, what were your exact stock seats? I weighed my seats, and they were 44.5 lbs (L and R) with brackets without seat belts. Mine are partial leather with no heat or memory. Only power backs. Manual sliders and up/down. Seems there is 15+ lbs difference among seats.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah, mine have 3 way memory plus another motor for the lumbar support. I think they're full leather too. I am not sure about partial leather.
