Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Another small bit of info, we do not use oiled filters (although I personally have used oiled filters on MAF equipped cars without issue).

Suggestion
As far as HP gains, im not sure, havent had the car out on a hard run since i installed it.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'll tell you, I was reluctant to pull off the CAI, because I thought it was giving me something in terms of a sound I loved, but the reality in comparing the same car before and after removing it is that I fell no difference in acceleration and the noise difference is very minor with my B&B mufflers.
Hello all - Looking to add a little extra HP to my stock 2000 996. I bought it with 13,800 on the clock. I've managed to get it up to 16,500 miles now. I smile every time I drive it. Anyway....
I'm looking for some suggestions on a MAF intake. I had a friend reco the Evolution Motorsports intake, said it was music at 4,500+ rpms. Next steps might be possibly an X-bi pass. And, I read many thumbs up on the Fisker D mufflers.
Thoughts?
i just installed the Fabspeed high performance intake.
Its very nice, all carbon fibre with a carbon fibre heat shield, fits really well and looks very cool when you open the decklid.
As far as HP gains, im not sure, havent had the car out on a hard run since i installed it.
Next will be the bypass pipes, im looking for that loud roar and some weight reduction in the back end.
My 996 had an EVO CAI installed when I bought it.
After many years of it being a pain in the *** tripping the MAF error codes I pulled it out and put the stock air box back in. After now driving it for several months I can affirm that the CAI did zero benefit to performance and very little to the sound of my car (granted I also have modified mufflers). Save your money and put it into a real performance upgrade.
We are currently working on an improved intake for the 996/997 cars. Attached you will find a dyno graph from our
preliminary
dyno testing:
Green line is prototype intake with sport cat X-pipe, all else stock
Blue line is Sport Cat X-pipe, Current generation Competition Intake (referred to internally as the J-Pipe), all else stock
Red line is Sport Cat X-pipe, all else stock
Purple line is everything stock
Car is an '02 3.6 Carrera.
Our intakes do not trigger any CEL/MAF issues on their own. Another small bit of info, we do not use oiled filters (although I personally have used oiled filters on MAF equipped cars without issue).
Wellard and I have had very different experiences with the EVO intake. I've had it on for several years with no error codes and have measured a small gain above 4000 rpm. I won't claim you can feel the gain, but it does exist. It also doesn't sound bad...but I have a stock exhaust. With a modified mufflers you might not even notice it.
Seems like the prototype intake gives up a bit below 3.5k rpms but makes up for it above that to the current intake.
Any pics of the prototype intake?
Also were these dyno runs done with ample time for ECU adaptation for each setup?
Yes it does however just today, after posting that graph, we have also made some updates to the sport cat X-pipe which added a significant amount of low and mid range torque. Same car as the above graph. Do not wish to post pictures at this time, sorry. Yes the car was taken for a short drive to allow for some adaptations to occur.
I'll tell you, I was reluctant to pull off the CAI, because I thought it was giving me something in terms of a sound I loved, but the reality in comparing the same car before and after removing it is that I fell no difference in acceleration and the noise difference is very minor with my B&B mufflers. The only thing that is different is that the stock air box has less of a burbling tone on deceleration, but that's the only minor difference.
Thanks for everyone's input.
@Welldermac - Thanks for the input. Open feedback is what this forum is about.
@Doug996inKC - PM sent.
Chris@ Fabspeed - I have a full exhaust set up from you on the 944. Love it. I'll check out your website.
