Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Has anyone with a Canadian 996 ever converted to the US headlamps to avoid the melting lenses? Is it even possible?

POST 2Original post

Uh. what? are they not the same? except for the DRL setting?

POST 3Original post

They are the same. Why are your lenses melting? Did you put higher wattage (non-oem) bulbs in there?

POST 4Original post

I cant say I have ever had problems with my lenses melting or discoloring due to them being canadian

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The Canadian headlamps are halogen bulbs are they not? I have read some post on here about the inner lens discoloring because the bulbs get to hot. Am I incorrect on to think this?

POST 6Original post

Standard on the 996 was halogen for US and Canada. Optional was Bi-xenon; on 2002+ these are distinguishable by the silver disk/pop-up washers.

I suggested in your thread https://rennlist.com/forums/rennlist-canada/702449-does-anyone-know-this-car.html that the cause is likely the DRL mode on halogen bulbs, DRL were mandatory in Canada quite a few years before US adopted the practice. POST 8Original post

not that I've done it, but...have the fog lights converted to become your DRLs and the head lights to only come on with the headlight switch. I'm sure there's a thread in here somewhere.
