Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

recently upgraded the IMS and new clutch and then the check engine light on with code reading P1238, 1239, 1240, 1241 indicating Fuel Injector Cylinder - Open circuit. I took it to the shop and they have reset the CEL and ask me to drive and see if the light goes on again. He checked everything was fine but I am not sure if other have similar CEL read out and what did you guys do with that? It is just a misread on the computer? I have a 2000 996 C2 with 63K milesage. Car runs great with no lose of power or engine problem. What do you guys think? Thanks

POST 2Original post

Quotes source post: 9114925

No misread of the computer. I assume, however, the codes were read by a device that is compatible with the car and its OBD2 system? As an aside, any name brand OBD code reader/data viewer ought to be I dare say, able to accurately read the codes. Most (none?) will not be able to offer any interpretation since error codes beginning with '1' are manufacturer specific. The error codes are coming from both banks. My info is the possible cause is a short circuit to ground wiring for cylinders #2, #3, #4, and #5. There are some tests: 1) Checking fuel injector: Remove harness connector from fuel inject (in this case) #1. Connect digital ohmmeter between pin 1 and pin 2 of the injector. Read 11 to 13 ohms at 68F (20C). 2) Checking wiring: Connect special Porsche pin-out-box 9616 (or equivalent) to wiring harness. Remove harness connector from fuel injector #1. Connect digital ohmmeter to pin out box 3 and fuel injector connector pin 2. Read 0 to 5 ohms. Connector digital ohmmeter to pin out box 3 and ground. Read infinity. Who did the IMS bearing upgrade and clutch job? Did the engine come out of the car? First thing would be to check the fuel injector electrical connections, any electrical connections that may have been disturbed, on purpose or by accident, during the IMS bearing/clutch job. Any chance of water getting into the car onto to the DME? Any chance the car has sat and rodents have been at the car? Rodents love to gnaw and I have seen some pretty messed up cars with all kinds of goofy errors into various Porsche dealers arising from rodent damage. If no signs of rodents -- and you have to really look for it -- then if the appearance of the errors coincided with the work on the car I have to believe the old saying "the last thing touched is the first thing suspected" applies. Sincerely, Macster.
