Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Reported cause
I only use it every 2 years a month or so before my car is due to be smog checked.
Leading evidence: 'be smog checked' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'be smog checked' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Lubricate properties regardless what is claimed' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I have used it but I can't tell any difference in quietness but I use my cars almost every day or every other day.

I've used both for a long time and never encountered any problems.

Anything else added to the oil will decrease its lubricating properties regardless what is claimed.

If you use Techron try to use it before an oil/filter service is due and when the last tank of this stuff is down to say 1/4 tank then change the oil/filter.

Now some techs tell me that using Swepco 502 oil treatment (which contains from an analysis I had done) 100ppm of molybdeum (micronized IIRC the description from Swepco's web site) helps to reduce the clatter these engines have upon startup, especially engines that are not started/run regularly.

Really, though the best thing you can do is use the right oil, the right grade of gas and the freshest gas (premium gas goes stale), use all the right fluids and change them when they are due on either time or miles, and leave the additives on the autoparts store shelves.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Has anyone tired BG 44 products? I just purchased a "99" 996 C4 and wonder if it's something I should use (increase gas milage, cleaner, etc.)
Thanks...
No need to use any additives, with a couple of exceptions I'll cover below.
If you plan on not using the car a while consider adding some gasoline stablizer to the gas tank. I've never used it but many who have swear by Stabil.
If you want to ensure the fuel system (from tank to the injectors) and the valves/combustion chambers, even the O2 sensors and converter surfaces are as clean as they can be, use Techron, a bottle or two according to the directions on the bottle.
There is no need to Techron this often. I only use it every 2 years a month or so before my car is due to be smog checked.

To ensure the best mileage, buy premium gas, keep the tires properly inflated and the junk (dead weight) out of the car.
Sincerely,
Macster.
No.
Use pump gas and good oil. Anything else added to the oil will decrease its lubricating properties regardless what is claimed. This was not true 40 years ago, but oils have dramatically changed. Add nothing to your fuel except a can of Heet occasionally in the winter to displace water from condensation.
