Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My radio works about 50% of the time these days. If I keep turning off the car, locking the doors --> unlocking --> turn the car back on; sometimes it works again Is there any easy fix for this, or do I have to bring it to the dealer? thx@

POST 2Original post

Could be a bad ground or other loose wire. I would pop it out and reseat all of the connections.

Oh dear; I have the mechanical skills of a 10-year old. I was hoping for a *you press XYZ into ABC spot and you are good to go"

Well, in that case you turn the ignition key to on, start the engine, and then drive the car to the nearest dealer. Seriously, there has been a problem, at least with some 996 models (my 03 Turbo for one) with the radio/stereo locking up. Well, not locking up but the symptom I have observed is the radio comes on, the display's fine, the buttons all seem to work, just no sound comes out, but who's to say other models do not manifest this problem in slightly different ways. I spoke to the service department about this and was told there is a TSB on this problem -- it involves I guess loading in new stereo controller firmware -- but a work around -- not to my liking though -- is when one notices the radio acting this way, or just acting up, acting abnormally, is to turn off the engine and leave it off long enough for the various controllers to power down. In doing so, this resets the radio electronics and all is well until the next time. Trouble is this can take minutes and I do not have the time to pull over somewhere and shut off the car and wait until every controller powers down. (One can I believe pull the radio/stereo fuse but I haven't bothered to learn where this is and well, bother with it.) In my car's case the symptom has only appeared just a couple of times, with long periods of time between. Sincerely, Macster.

This happened when I first bought the car. I was driving it back to Canada from the US and it happened after I pumped gas... I had to drive with no music for about 8 hours the next morning when I started it, it worked fine. That radio does funny things! I've seen it twitch a few times but it always ends up working somehow.

Pull fuses D8 + 9 to reset it without waiting. Mine did this when I first got it, almost every time I started the car if I left the radio on when I shut the car off. Also if I turned the radio on as soon as I started the car?? Now I wait a minute or two before I turn it on. I haven't had the problem in the last two years. I have been re-programmed by the car. I marked mine with white paint so I could just pluck them out without counting down and over. From my 03 C2 cab:
