Remove the bolt and put your finger in there to stop the flow of oil, have a clean catch pan undreneath, it will be messy.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello all, had my 996 C2.1 for about 18 months and been very happy, however recently have noticed a small oil leak (leaves about a patch 1 inch x 1 inch overnight, but does not seem to affect the running of the car in any way). Now I have looked and it looks like it COULD be coming from the area highlighted below, is this the oil pressure relief valve, and if so how easy is it to sort? Thanks Lee

POST 2Original post

Extremely easy, buy a new washer for it first. I can look up the part number later unless someone beats me to it. Two methods: 1. Drain the oil into a very clean pan, then remove the bolt and put on a new washer and tighten. Refill oil. 2. Remove the bolt and put your finger in there to stop the flow of oil, have a clean catch pan undreneath, it will be messy. Put on a new washer and tighten. Refill oil. Optionally you can replace the spring and piston while your in there, they are cheap. I'll look up the torque value later unless someone beats me to it.

POST 3Original post

Are you sure the origin of the leak is there and not up higher?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the replies, does anyone have the part number? Lee

POST 5Original post

Yep here you go! washer 99610712350 (if oil is drained from block dip the two below in oil before installing) spring 99610712753 piston 99710712501 19ft lbs torque on the relief bolt. 37ft lbs on the oil drain plug.

Thanks very much and will give it a go on the next few days!
