Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I found a set of 19" 997 Turbo wheels with tires for sale and am trying to find out if they will fit my 2004 4S . I have chrome standard twist wheels now ( fronts are 225/40/ZR18 and rears are 295/30/ZR18 ) . The seller has Pilot Sport Cup tires on these Turbo rims ( front 235/35/ZR19 and rear 305/30/ZR19 ). He says they would fit fine except that the rear tire would be too tall and I'd have to buy a different size tire. I don't mind swapping tires if the rims will fit without having to modify the suspension or the fenders to accomodate this size. Have any of you guys put these rims on a wide body 996 ? What size tires did you end up with ? Any problems ? Any help is appreciated - thanks !

POST 2Original post

yes http://www.teamspeed.com/forums/997-...tt-wheels.html

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

very nice - what size are your F & R tires ?

POST 4Original post

I have heard that in the 997 the differential is different from the 996 and the difference circumference of the front and rear tire is more accpetable in the 997 than the 996. You should calculate this using the rims and tire. Tires do make the difference in wrecking your 996 differential or not...

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So, are you saying that if I have 40 series tires in the front and 30 series in the back, I'll need to go to 30 series in the front and 20 series( do they even make such a size ? ) in the back to keep the overall diameter of the wheel/tire the same as what I have now ?

POST 6Original post

I asked this question once and from what i remember it will affect the diff. Only the replica turbo rims come in the appropriate size. A tire/wheel person can hopefully clarify this for all of us.

Your differential doesnt care if your front and rear tires are 23" tall or 27" tall, all that it cares is that they are the same or extremely similar between the front and rear. Mark

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

yeah, but the 4S comes standard with different profile tires on the front and back already ( 40 vs 30 ) which , unless I am missing something , are not the same or very similar . Is there something I am not understanding here ?

POST 9Original post

I thought the issue was the suspension design and the fact that larger wheels are heavier. More unsprung weight than the suspension is designed for will affect handling. that not true?
