Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm looking for a console delete kit for my 996. Have these been discontinued or backordered or something? They're seemingly unobtainable, or over $1000. There's one on eBay under $300 that looks nice, branded MaxLabs. Are there any other options before I pull the trigger on this one?

POST 2Original post

What's wild is that I heard that these used to be like $200-300 new from the dealerships a few years back. No idea what happened.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 19577433

I'm reading that as well. I'd happily pay $300 but I can't stomach $1000+ for it, especially if this is only like a short-term supply shortage price gouge. Doesn't look like the price is going to come back down so maybe I'll give the aftermarket one a shot.

POST 4Original post

Quotes source post: 19577436

Have you priced these at a dealership? Maybe Suncoast bought up a bunch and are marking them up just because. Got an OEM part number?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 19577440

I don't, but my local dealer said theyre NLA.

POST 6Original post

Quotes source post: 19577507

Then yeah, my guess would be that Suncoast bought up the last of Porsche's dead stock for cheap and are probably making 10x their cost on them. The $500 carbon one (by Rennline?) is cheaper, but I don't want carbon fiber. I don't have any carbon in the interior so it would stick out like a sore thumb. It would be cool if they made a carpeted one for like $300 or a leather-bound one for maybe $500. I'd pay $500 for a leather bound one with the proper double-stitched seams to match the leather dashboard.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 19577620

Probably accurate. Well I guess Ill go ahead and grab that aftermarket one and see how it goes

+1 The price increase/unavailability is crazy to me. March 2019 I bought my Natural Brown one from Rose Passion in France for just under $200 with shipping to the US. At the time there were zero in the US and even RP had about a two month wait to get it from their supplier. I'm really glad to see the 3d printed ones are becoming more and more available.

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 19577733

Yup. The next steps will be to steal photos of some pricy item currently on the forum (deep back in the classifieds), then post a new ad with those pics selling some $8,000 wheels for $4,000. When you contact them via the site, the first thing they try to do is get you to communicate off of this site and on to email, whats app, text, whatever. That way they don't get flagged as a scammer here. Rinse. Repeat. Another thing they'll do is watch for, "Hey, OP. Is this still available?" replies on a classified ad then say, "I'm not OP, but I have one! PM me...". I've even seen them copy a seller's user name and use slightly different character. "maverick3O2" instead of "maverick302", and act like the seller. I've seen all of the above in the past few months here.

I paid $154.00 from Sunset in January of '21. It's 986.552.113.02.A10 for the black version.

POST 17Original post

Holy crap. I paid $211 in 2021. I can't believe how these things have gone up. Personally I adore the 996 interior with the console delete but for that money I'd rethink it. Or come up with my own solution.

POST 18Original post

Quotes source posts: 19577798, 19577854

Thank you!! It's price gouging plain and simple. My guess is that the buyer at Suncoast knew a good deal when they saw it and bought up a lot (all?) of the dead stock and cornered the market. When you are the only one selling it, you can set the price to whatever you think people will pay. Maybe they'll go on sale one day, but even then, $800 or $600 still sucks to pay for something that was less than $300 from the dealership.

POST 19Original post

I paid about $350 shipped from Rose Passion in 2022. Absurd that a little piece of plastic and carpet can be sold for over a grand. These used to be all over ebay for like $50 in 2018-2019 because almost every Boxster came with it from the factory, thus the 986 part #.

POST 20Original post

Quotes source posts: 19577507, 19577620

I dunno if you've ordered already but I do occasionally make OEM GT3 replicas for $450. Sadly it's not possible to offer it at the original OEM price as there is not enough sales volume to justify opening tooling. Bespoke work costs. On the plus side, since everything I do is bespoke, I can make you a leather one with color-matched leather and coordinated double seams for $500 lol.

POST 21Original post

Quotes source post: 19578103

Nice. Let's talk!

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 19577973

Nothing to do with Suncoast. Its Porsche AG in Germany, but you are correct about the price gouging, because thats exactly what it is. I suggested to my local OPC that Porsches parts stock analytics/algorithms are seeing sales of parts for cars production of which ended nearly 20 years ago. When they see abnormal demand for such parts, they notify the stock controllers/costing departments, who increase the prices as they see fit, and this frequently results in overnight price increase. My OPC confirmed that is indeed what happens, and theyve been caught out between ordering parts, receiving them, and invoicing them to customers I purchased my delete kit back in early 22, it cost me 350, now theyre 1000

POST 23Original post

Not just 996 parts either. I needed a wheel hub for my 955 Cayenne: they were $55 each or so when I checked. A week later when I tried to order it they were $275 each. I did not buy it, sourced an aftermarket Touareg part for $30.

POST 24Original post

Gert from Carnewal explained why the prices went up and its not entirely Porsches fault. The kits were made by a small shop for Porsche and they raised the prices.

POST 25Original post

FYI there's a 3D print file on thingiverse that's free. I found a guy on Facebook Marketplace to print it for ~$100. I'll post pics once I leather wrap it out upholster it with carpet

POST 26Original post

Mk2 996 6 pot front calipers used to be 600 a PAIR, now theyre closer to 1200 EACH. Brembo isnt a small shop Porsche are price gouging just like the majority of big, greedy corporates are.

POST 27Original post

I completely understand but I was only speaking about the console delete. The 996 GT3 master cylinder went up triple from one day to the next.

POST 28Original post

Porsche gt3-style console trim kit 996 / 986 911 Boxster | eBay Someone on FB said they liked it and the pictures looked good.

POST 29Original post

Quotes source posts: 19578809, 19579046

I know I have an obvious conflict of interest here, but there's a reason why those are cheap. The real GT3 console delete has some really nice subtleties like double radiuses, recesses and alignment tabs that aren't implemented in the free file. The most obvious difference is that the filler piece in front of the shifter is supposed to be a curved trapezoid - not a flat rectangle. I spent quite a few hours looking at and replicating these features and it's not trivial to get it to look OEM. If it doesn't bother you (the piece is mostly out of sight, this is true) then by all means, free file + DIY carpet and you're good to go. Just know that this approach isn't without compromises.

POST 30Original post

wow. I did this mod in like 2007 because I hated that stupid, intrusive 'cd holder' bull**** that was 5x larger than it needed to be and kept banging my calf into it! I had no idea these had increased in price so much, guess i'm getting old!

Excellent work. All credit to you.

POST 32Original post

Quotes source post: 19579085

Agreed. I lucked out and got a used OEM version. The prices on everything have gone crazy. The little plastic splitter on my front bumper went from 140 bucks to nearly 700 bucks I think. Pretty wild. Personally, if I was buying today, I might try the ebay version just to save 700 bucks. Either way, I think the console delete made things way better in the passenger compartment. It allowed for way more leg space.

Couple days earlier and I probably would have jumped on that...

POST 36 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The kit showed up today. It's certainly 3D printed - I was worried about breaking it but I guess that's just my perception as it seems pretty rigid. It installed with a snug click on the back end, and through the front mounting holes using the original nuts from the removed bracketry. The shifter cover also snaps into place. The leather was a nice touch - it matches the side panels exactly but it is a little different than the shift boot leather if you look close. Everything matches well enough that it looks factory. Overall I'm quite happy with it, it's definitely a much nicer look than the console and I'm happy to have the extra leg room. I could not for the life of me get a good picture of it in the car, but here are some shots before I installed it:
