I have put deposit to hold the car and wait until the OEM cat replaced then i can enjoy my very first Porsche.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Im interest on buying my first 911, a 2002 C4S, 130k miles (210k kms). The engine was replaced with the new one has large/single row from Porsche in 2010 at ~45k miles. The current owner owns the car for 14 years and have done lots of maintenance (he has a huge pile of all service records). The price also reasonable and fix my budget as well as I can see the owner taking care of the care well.
We sent the car for service and PPI and he just sent me the PPI result. Honestly I little bit lost when look at the PPI as there are quite a lot of things need to be considered?
- oil leak was from the freeze plug, he will get it replaced.
- both engine mounts also replaced.
- Rotors, pads and tires still good for me to enjoy another season.
- A/C has leaks from condenser as well as compressor but still blow cold.
- he offers to replaced the cat with the OEM one and split half the cost with me which is is ~ $1500 each.
- passenger vanity mirror light will be replaced (he already ordered the part)
I'm not sure about the bore scope results at all.
What do you think about buying this car? What other things I need to look at from the PPI
Thanks
Tough to draw a concrete conclusion with what you attached. Looks like pieces from a larger document.
Four questions.
1. When was water pump last replaced?
2. Was IMSB upgraded? Of so with what and when?
3. Did they do a borescope and take pictures?
4. How old is the AOS?
If i can read it correctly the engine has a hesitation issue and ticking among other things. Hesitation can be a number of things and will cost money to fix. Ticking can possibly be from bore scoring or something else. The need for a bore scope is pretty important.
Scoped from the spark plug holes, not ideal. But I'm pretty sure I see the beginnings of bore scoring, which is not a surprise at that mileage. You could probably drive it for quite a few thousand more miles before having to do anything though. If you do buy it, get a UOA done right away and follow it up a few K miles later so you can establish a pattern. Proper driving habits and frequent oil changes will be your friend.
In terms of immediate need I'd be more concerned with the oil leaks, especially in the RMS/IMSB vicinity. The other probable expense is going to be suspension, every bit of which will need replacing if it hasn't been done.
This car should be pretty low in the 996 C4S price range, unless it is an unusual color or has an unusually wonderful option list.
Even with such light scratches it's nothing to worry about. If he was to race the car then it's a different story (loss of power) but with 130k these cylinders are actually in great shape!
Use the result on the cat. convertor to lower the asking price as chances are the cat still converts as intended. Best to confirm this by doing an emissions test.
Rattling is annoying but could also be from within the back boxes (kick them to find out).
Tyres are 8y old, time to replace also considering they're close to 4 mm tread depth.
Bores look good on the picture, better than the verbatim would have me believe. Based on the pictures I'd feel confident to buy.
Thank you everyone for the input. I have put deposit to hold the car and wait until the OEM cat replaced then i can enjoy my very first Porsche. Here is some more info/update about the car:
- original paint is black but the car being wrap in red for 15 years. The current own re-wrap it in the same color 2 years ago. He told me that the original paint in bad shape but they quoted him $7000 to paint so he decided to wrap it again for half cost.
- car has sport seats
- FVD brombacher sport exhaust
- RUF front lip (oem lip still available)
- gt2 wing (oem trunk still available)
- kenwood excellon head unit (oem still available)
- another set of after maket 18 rim
- he split the cost of replacing the cat with me and the shop refuse to install after market cat as they will throw error. The part number is 113 032 03 and total cost is CAD $3650, I will pay $1500 and the rest on him.
- The shop also ordered the oem freeze plug, they also cleaned the engine and took for a drive test also park on an even surface for a few days and no oil leak.
- gas gauge works again
The final sale price is $29.5k CAD (21.5k USD) and i cant find anything lower than that with any condition.
USD$21.5K seems very reasonable given the condition, especially if the source of the leak is a freeze plug. As was suggested earlier in the post, I would plan on replacing the water pump as soon as possible. Make sure to personally inspect the old pump to make sure it didn't have any of its rotor broken off. Replace with a composite vane water pump, not metal vane. Consider replacing all other fluids if that hasn't been done in a long time.
Ditch the tires. You are riding on a ticking time bomb with those.
Fatten up your reserve bank account. The unexpected repairs will find you. This is just the name of the game.
As another has said, replace every fluid in the car, including brake fluid. Good luck and have fun.
