Leading evidence: 'Run into this problem' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run into this problem' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Mine does use the A/C sometimes when it's quite cold outside.

Yes it does get cold...its relative right....in hawaii and I've found to defeat the a/c or cold blowing air go into defroster mode that seems to only use heat.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

With our weather warming up to spring temperatures lately (it reached 15 deg C today, which is a balmy 60 deg F; there were actually girls suntanning in bikini tops in one of our local parks) my car's climate control system has recently been called upon to cool my interior rather than heat it up, as was the case for the last 5-6 months.
However, it seems that the air conditioning is always coming on (even if the outside air is cooler than the inside), making the car too cold! Basically every car I have had with automatic climate control has been able to figure out if the ambient/outside air is cooler than the interior, and use that instead of turning on the A/C compressor - but apparently not this one!
Is it possible that my interior temperature sensor is shot? The climate control works well otherwise (i.e. LOTS of cold air, warm when needed) - but this is already driving me crazy and it's not even really that warm yet.
Anyone run into this problem before?
If you press the Auto button then A/C will come on. While I don't think my E60 did the same thing, it might be more efficient to get the temperature right with A/C on.
Mine does use the A/C sometimes when it's quite cold outside. However, I think the sun warms up the cabin enough that it's warranted. Once it runs for a few minutes, it seems to even out and work just fine.
It seems to me the a/c cuts back the fan more if you have the lower vents activated. Then the a/c emblem is going to always be from what I was told when operating automatic since its taking the moisture out of the air by running it through that a/c first. Yes it does get cold...its relative right....in hawaii and I've found to defeat the a/c or cold blowing air go into defroster mode that seems to only use heat. At least the defrost mode has pure heat blowing from what I recall.
Maybe its not the AC and its you.... your body is still figuring out if its hot or cold. I had the same issue last weekend, when the AC was on it was to cold, shut it off it got to hot. I say give it time...
The A/C compressor will be fully operational 24/7 with the engine running and the OAT above ~35F. I have a switch in the center box that I use to open the A/C compressor clutch circuit throughout the period of cool climate/weather.
To have the system be more comfortable you need to manage the outlet airflow yourself. If "warmth" is your desire then deselect the dash, face and upper body, outflow ducting. Allowing footwell and windshield airflow only.
If, in the other hand, you wish cooling then simply be sure, certain sure, that the windshield outflow is DESELECTED. You DO NOT want the interior, or EXTERIOR, windshield surface inadvertently cooled to the point that condensation begins to form.
I DO NOT enable the A/C compressor unless actual cooling, or initial cooldown, is needed.
The human comfort equation happens to be a bit more complex than automotive design engineers seem to understand. Automotive A/C designs rely only, SOLELY, on air temperature to sense your comfort level. Radiant cooling effects are just as important if not even moreso.
Most modern day automatic climate control systems will switch, automatically switch, into cooling mode, coollish and DRY outlet airflow toward the face and upper body once the cabin AIR temperature rises to within a few degrees of your temperature setpoint.
Meanwhile, "outside" it might be the coldest darkest winter night on record, ice and snow covered surrounding terrain, and your body "chills" while that stupid system continues to COOL the cabin atmosphere.
Simply restrict the system outflow to footwell and windshield when your body says it needs HEAT.
"...At least....pure heat..."
No, NO, NOT..!!
The system will only provide HEAT to the windshield interior surface during the cabin warmup period/time. Once the cabin AIR temperature rises to within a few degrees of your temperature setpoint the system will AUTOMATICALLY switch into "cooling" mode, widely despersed outlet airflow, footwell, dash, AND windshield, and lower blower speeds.
That will oftentimes result in cooling the windshield so severely that condensation begins to form on the OUTSIDE on a humid day or evening.
During the winter months when the windshield/windows are more subject to condensation you should closely monitor the system and once it switches into cooling mode manual deselect the dash outlet flow. Personally I immediately DESELECT the dash outlet flow whenever heating is desired.
If for some reason, beyond the warm-up period, the interior windshield should begin to fog over the ONLY answer, correct answer, is to turn up the temperature setpoint while selecting defrost/defog/demist mode.
Yes, the A/C will turn on automatically, if not already on, to help with dehumidification and thereby quicker windshield defogging.
MAYBE...
The efficiency of the A/C for dehumidification might be severely limited by mother nature, local climatic conditions. The closer the OAT is to freezing the lower is the possibility of the A/C being efficient at dehumidifying the incoming airflow.
